Well, I have lurked on here for a while and still haven't bought a Super Duty, but I did finally sell my Marauder, so a truck is next. I have debated on an F-150, F-250, or F-350 (SRW or DRW) and keep coming back to the SD. I want something that will be able to pull anything I want without wishing I had more truck, but that still rides OK and is good for the Iowa winters.

My dream truck has always been a SuperCrew dually with the PowerStroke, but I always wonder if a dually would be any good in the winter. With that concern I then drop back to a F-250/350 with the PowerStroke, FX-4 4x4. Whatever I got I would probably do a level kit with new wheels/tires just to make it mine. And of course the basic bolt-ons (CAI, exhaust, tuner, and EGT gauge). And then just drive it forever. I am guessing with the limited number of miles I would put on this vehicle that it may just be the last truck I ever need to buy...

Anyway, just thought it was time to introduce myself. And any input you want to give on the SRW vs. DRW for winter driving (and general highway trips, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for a great site!

EDIT: Oh yeah, the truck much be able to do some light off-roading, too, which makes me think the SRW would be better than the dually, but I am always open to input stating otherwise... :)

There are several guys here with DRW trucks and I am sure they will tell you about them in the Winter. Be careful about tuners, they can cause the head gaskets to blow and that is NOT a cheap fix! The 6.4 diesels seem to get horrible fuel mileage. You can read for yourself in the 6.4 Super Duty section. Enjoy!!!

Thanks Dave. Yes, I am reading all I can. I would love newer, but would also like to get the best gas mileage, etc I can to start with. Lots of reading, information gathering, and test driving to do before I buy anything. I can be a bit of a geek like that...

Welcome Eric.

My F350 SRW is perfect for Alabama winters.

Do you actually get snow in the winter down there? :dunno

Yeah, after the last couple of winters it would be really nice to have a 4x4. Granted, the Vic with the Blizzaks on it never got stuck once last winter and the Marauder never did either, a truck would be nice peace of mind. Not for being any better stopping or on ice, but getting through that thick, heavy snow we have gotten the last couple of years.

Plus the bed, 4x4 for off-roading, pulling power, etc. I am liking the F-350 SRW and think they look nice leveled out with good wheel/tire setup.

Naw, not really. We get one of those "The Storm of the Century" about every 20 years.

I was just funnin' :D

Yeah, I figured you were, but never having been there wasn't completely sure. Kind of like our "100 Year Floods" that we had for a couple years in a row and then again a few years after that....
