I moved my Mom out to Fort Worth 2,250 round trip, (My sister’s place) July 4. I pushed the truck to the limit there and back. 24' enclosed trailer with her Escape and all her furniture in it. We left at 10:10 EST and pulled in to Susan’s place at 1:02 PM CT. Needless to say we only stopped for fuel and the only time the truck seen less the 80 MPH was On and Off Ramps. On the way back the truck threw a code (Empty trailer I guess). When I got back and cranked it up the next day the Turbo was making a Whirling sound. I drove it some about 2,000 miles hoping it would go away. It didn’t and I took to the dealer. They replaced the Turbo $100 Deductible. They called, I went and picked it up, I did not check under the hood. I didn’t drive it for about 2 weeks; I have a 01 that I like driving better. I took my Shelby to the mountains last weekend (in a Trailer) to have some fun on US 129 in NC. & TN. When I got back it was time to change the oil in all my Super Duties. I open the hood on my 06 and the Air Filter to the Turbo inlet tube was not connected!! I will say I should have opened the hood to inspect their work, But I didn’t!! It is really dry in TN. where I was staying 4 miles down a Gravel Road. There is a little trail of dust in the tube. I don’t think it is hurt I only went up and down that road 4 times. And the closeness of the fit of these parts means it was getting some if not most filtered air. It was a 1,300 miles round trip. And another 2 or 3 hundred miles around here after I got back, So about 1,600 miles of half filtered air, Pushing 20lbs of boost through my truck.

And they wonder why you don’t want them to change the oil on a $10,000 motor!!

It is really hard to find good techs anymore. Half of them just want the pay check, and could careless about what they do.

crap like this is why i do as much as i can myself...even w/ a 5/100
warranty...

it makes it easy to justify the cost of my autoenginuity software....
if nothing else i figure it keeps the dealers honest...and me informed.

did you get the little "how did we do" card in the mail yet? fill it out, tell FORD (not just the dealer) what you think.

i sent one in. my truck was 1 month old, took it in for a doorlock sticking, and an alignment check (steer wheel was crooked). I STOOD THERE, 3 feet from it, and watched the shagger crank it and drive off with the glow plug light still lit. i was livid. i went ballistic on the service writer, in front of several other customers. i got apology's from different levels at ford for 3 months.

Its sad you can't trust the dealers to put out quality work. You(the customer) should not have to go behind them and hold their hand to make sure its correct. Did you call the dealer and report what you saw, or are you gonna let it go?

the blame isnt just at the dealer level...its the way ford has removed
the incentive to perform good <warranty> work...artificially reduced
"time to repair" allowances and 1/2 the "normal" labor rate allowed...
and NO allowance for payment of trouble shooting.

time is money to EVERYONE...including the guys w/ wrenches in their
hand.

what makes the situation WORSE is the lack of TRAINING that
FORD & The franchised dealerships provide the techs...its no wonder
these dealers cant keep the GOOD mechanics !

and consider what a mechanic is these days...plumber, electrician,
mechanic and a computer (software) specialist...

It's amazing the amount of money per hour they'll flash in someone's face to GET them to work there, but when it's time to pony up a 2.5% cost of living increase, the guy hears, "wanna make more money? work FASTER!"

That's where the mechainic's saying goes, "toolboxes have wheels on them for a reason"

My truck only gets "molested":sly by two people thats me and a really good friend of mine who owns his own auto repair shop, my fiances gone to him plenty of times, and she is clueless when it comes to vehicles and with me being 900 miles away i know i can trust him not to screw her over like has happened before, IMO Online training coursesare no substitute for getting ur hands dirty:rant but i guess thats the wave of the future b/c going through my Hospital Corspman "A" School it was all online with a few practical applications, Ie Blood Draws, IVs Shots, but when i was down in camp lejeune it was all hands on, which alot more people grasp IMO, but i guess Computers are the future teachers:watchout
