Hi, I'm new here, came over from the duramax forum. I'm currently in a 02 Chevy Duramax, but am thinking of a new 06 before the Fed's ruin another good thing with smog crap. I really like the look and feel of the Ford, especially the interior, but am very jaded. I was always a Ford guy until I had an 89 150, followed by a 93 Bronco. What garbage, I swore I'd never go back to Ford again. So here I am considering them again. Can anyone compare with FIRSTHAND knowledge how the new PSD tows compared to a Duramax (which is incredible in my opinion). Also, is the new auto truly bulletproof like the allison? I tow a fishing boat that is around 10k on a triple axle trailer. Are there any plans for a 6speed auto in the Ford or are you guys happy with the 5 speed. I'm reading some not so positive reviews here on fuel economy, I'm asuming an average of 15 unloaded is realistic, is that right. Thanks for helping me out

I wouldn't hesitate. The Chevy is a good truck no doubt. But I believe the Ford has the advantage on towing. The new trans is as good as any Allison I've owned, and thats several. Cab is no contest. Integrated trailer brake control, no contest. Bed size and weight carrying, no contest. As far as problems with the engines, well lets just say I've visited several G.M. sites...they have issues also. Its all up to you. My partner has a chevy. Its a good truck, but we almost always pull with my F350. "Nuff said.

well last summer when we were looking to replace the 350 dually
we looked at MD trucks and HD trucks (retired VOLVOs), but they were just to big for wife to drive.
soit was back to pickups

chevy and dodges
and in a pickup no one can compete with the tow boss
a full size bed, crew cab with a fiver tow rating of 18K is incredible
and the gcvwr of 26k
chevy and dodge cant even come close

ford offers a 4.30 rear gear limited slip
the other two NO

built in brake controller
the other two NO

the tQ shift is in my opinion every bit as good as the allison, i have driven lots of ally 5 speeds

my 02 350 dually was a great truck but the tow capactity didnt meet with my fiver
beleive me, if we had found a gm truck that could compete i would have bought it, ......maybe, i like the dash and one piece dually bed :sorry

I drove a Chevy and a Dodge before I bought my truck (I know, I'm a terrible person, but I had to) and all I can say is the only thing that kept up in power was the Cummins, but I hated the sound of it a.k.a. CRAP.

I love my 6.0, I recommend it 100% and it's better than ever.

First off, Welcome to SSD. Pull your shoes off and stay awhile. Please post where you are from.
Now for the bad things about driving a new Ford F-350 CrewCab 6.0 PowerStroke. It is so hard to get the grin off of you face, and have to spend time talking to people you met on the streets or at campgrounds who like the looks of that best looking truck I've seen in a long time, or when a Cop stops you he thinks you are up to something. You can read below and see what I have. It does a great job pulling the trailer

Well, more people bought these trucks than the other two combined. Maybe they are all busy now and can't respond.

first, welcome to SDD

Like you, I said the same thing (mid 80's), but ended going back to Ford for the towing cappacity.
Our trailer when fully loaded (all the time) is around 12k. All I can say it wow.
The truck is stock, and pulls our TH like a truck should :D
MPG towing...well lets just say I didnt buy it for towing MPG, but its a far cry better than my old F250 V10. We end up averaging 10 towing, with the best in the hill counrty in Oregon of 12. Better fuel in OR?
Friends that have the near same trailer set up, and a Chevy ('05 diesel): I can out pull them going up the Grapevine on I5 and keep the rig rolling 55mph all the way up, and then get the dirty looks later when they catch up.. ;) , but a passed beer later an all is forgiven :sweet

So far for me the truck has been great, with no real issues or complaints.
My dealer even let me tow my TH before purchace, just to make sure I'd be happy with it.
The Chevy is a good truck too, but I liked the looks and the drive of the F350 better.

Good luck

I'd say that they are about equal, each with their own pluses, and minuses. (I own both Ford and GM) My 2002 K3500 has the LB7 duramax.

just a few examples
Ford has a solid front axle, which is a bit beefier, but GM's IFS rides much better. Ford also has the advantage of the option of having fully manual 4wd. in my experience, electric 4wd will leave you stranded when you need it most, however manual has never let me down, though I do have a spare hub in the toolbox, right next to the cps, just to be safe

GM has the better automatic, while Ford has the better Manual (both Ford and the General use the ZF6, but GM has a few clutch issues still.

I think that the 7.3 is about tied with the duramax (power reliability, etc), however, I'd take another duramax long before I'll ever touch a 6.0

as far as interior, GM wins by far. Great seats, and the fact that GM gives us real gauges (oil pressure, coolant temp, tranny temp) instead of glorified idiot lights. . .

Just my opinon though
