Hey everyone, I like the your forum, seems like alot of good guys here and good information.

here's my 1st question, I'm going look at a 05 F350 CC L/B on saturday at a dealer, it has 28k miles on it, and Banks' Turbo (thats what the dealer says anyhow), with this being my 1st Diesel, I was wondering if you guys could let me know what I should be looking for? any help is greatly appreciated, and I look forwad to being a part of this community ( if I can get a good deal)

Thanks,

Ben

It does not have a Banks "turbo", thats a salesman not knowing crap... Banks makes no turbo upgrade for the 6.0... It might have a banks tuner or exhaust or something but no turbo.

id ask LOTS of questions about the truck and i would INSIST
on seeing the FULL oasis report...a truck w/ that low milage
and visual modifications may have been traded or sold for a reason.

oasis is fords vin history tracking system...itll show all the work
(recalls) and other non-scheduled service that was ever performed
at any ford dealer (and considering the truck is STILL under the 3yr/36k
warrenty why would anyone take it any place else for service.)

at a minimum if i were considering the purchase of this truck i would
INSIST on the dealer throwing in (at no additional cost to the buyer)
a zero (or low $) deductible bumper to bumper FORD extended
warrenty...it would be an absolute deal breaker if the dealer was
unwilling to include the extra warrenty coverage...and it might be
a sign that the dealer KNOWS this particular truck could be a problem
for 'em.

since the truck includes a 5yr/100k mi (100 buck deductible) warrenty
from ford this isnt a huge thing for you to ask of the dealer...it would
give me peace of mind.

I'm from North Western PA, who's the dealer? And I agree... a 2005 with a Banks Turbo? Never heard of such an animal. Dealers typically don't take a liking to trucks with mods on them, particularly like that, unless it's a minimal mod, like a cat back exhaust. I'd check that it's there, BTY. What's the asking price?

Something other than Rendel smells fishy in PA...

thanks for the input guys.

Kleetus, it's at Kenny Ross Ford South, I found it on forddirect.com, and they're asking $30,999 for it, price seemed low thats why I was trying to get some info from everyone, if there's one thing I learned, if it sounds to good to be true, it probaly is. But I should have to the time to go and look at it saturday, so I guess I'll find out then.

i should have mentioned the 100k warrenty from ford
really only covers the engine (no trans or suspension) after
the 3/36 runs out.

additionally extended warrenty purchases are CHEAPER if the
truck is still covered under the 3/36

id wouldnt tip my hat about the oasis report...id say to the sales
rep (or sales mgr)...write the vin number down or id let 'em watch
me write the vin down and then id say..."ok walk me over to the
service department, and lets ask the service guys to run the
OASIS report"

id want the rep to walk w/ me, so he wouldnt have a chance to
"call over" to the service mgr and "give em a heads up"...and i would
want to see the report print out right in front of me (so they
couldnt hide or discard any pages)

theyll probably tell you that the report is too technical or coded
in a manner such that the customer cant understand it...id say thats
ok i wanna see it anyway & that im sure they can take the time to
explain it to me.

id HOLD the report in my own hands and i wouldnt let go of it...id
stick it in my pocket after i were done talking to 'em too.

if they start acting nervous then i think that'd be my sign something
were up on this truck.

if the the truck were in the shop alot or had the engine replaced
or something like that the oasis report will show it.

OASIS = On-Line Automotive Service Information System

things like below are BAD:
REACQUIRED VEH WTY EXP 12-19-2005 DISTANCE 19221
means the truck was a buy back or lemon that they had to REACQUIRE

if you GOOGLE ford oasis report youll even come up w/ sites that
will allow you to submit a VIN these other sites are guys that work
in the dealerships and will run the report for you and either cut and
paste/send you the report or theyll interpt. the info and put it to you
in plain english.
