Hey all, great place you guys got here. Last weekend I drove home my first Ford and my first Diesel. I have the title, but am waiting on the lien release form from the sellers bank. So for now it sits. Other than needing tires, it made the 700 some mile trip from OK City back to Indiana very smoothly. I've read a lot about the 6.0, and am aware of its trouble areas. I hit 140K on the clock driving it home and it is now due for an oil change. The previous owner used Mystic oil, but I can't find it locally. Any suggestions on what to switch to? I figured I'd just go with Motocraft, but am open to suggestions from those in the know. It is a little slow to start, 1.5-2 seconds, so I ordered some Stanadyne. I heard this stuff is good. I'll be doing an oil change this weekend, and will be changing both fuel filters. Other than the basics, brakes, steering/susp, fluids, etc., Is there any other checks that I should make before I begin driving it daily? Thanks guys.

Hello Mr. BJ and Welcome to SSD.com. I have always used Shell 15 w 40
and the dealer did some work on my truck once and changed it and put in
Motocraft 15 w 40 and I went on a 2500 mile trip pulling my fifth wheel and it
used a little more than a qt. With Rotella it is never low on a 5000 mile change.
Drive the truck, don't let it set around for 3 or 4 weeks at a time.
Change the oil ever 5000 miles and fuel filters ever 10 to 15000 miles.
Have fun and enjoy your new to you truck. Mystic oil, is great oil but hard to fine
sometimes, look up there web page and see who sales it near you.

:welcome4 Brandon. Rotella T synthetic oil is available from Wal Mart in gallon jugs for less than $20 per gallon.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I'll be going with the Rotella Synthetic and Ford parts. Also, I'm looking into a coolant filter. The EGR cooler was replaced in the last 20k, so I'm not looking for a blockoff kit, but maybe in the future. It has an Edge, which I won't be using, but it makes me concerned about the condition of the head gasket. I may put a "hero kit" together for a condition check. My main concern is longevity and economy, not really concerned about power. I won't be towing much at all. Again, Thanks for the help.
