New to diesle truck overwhelmed

Just purchased a 2000 350 turbo powerstroke 139,000 miles.... clean runs great.... Just changed the oil, air, and fuel filter... this being my first... Im looking for suggestions on what to be looking for and what to do for small upgrades, it is a work truck, I am overwhelmed by the info and issues on this site wow! what a great resource

Others will chime in. But new to you? I would ( and did ) Coolant flush, tranny fluid, differential fluid. Shocks ok? Sway bar bushings and endlink bushings ok?

Good luck on your new ride. You're gonna love this site. Great people and a wealth of info. You get stuck on something and it seems like theres an army of people trying to help!

New to me Yes ... Truck did sit in a garage for over a year... so Im not sure what that does to a diesle, as far as bushings good idea, shocks are in the process of being replaced... starts great , no smoke, solid... I think the steering stabelizer is bad..... this truck is sweet, full 4 doors leather interior, looking to do some upgrades and maintanace...just not sure on the route to take>>> Thanks Brotha for the ideas;tu

Your probably not going to have many issues with that truck UNLESS it was not maintained by the previous owner, upgrades are optional but not necassary if reliable power is what your looking for, they run awesome stock. Exhaust and an intake might be worth it for sound but generally speaking just go through the thing with a fine toothed comb and replace anything you question that way you know whats been done. Full service if it needs it and then just keep up on the maintenence.I noticed your in Mass and I'm out of Weymouth so anything you can't do just ask me, I have been a diesel mechanic for Ford and International for the last 7 years. I do quality sidework for way less than the dealer.

Some other things to think about. Get a spare CPS and keep it in the glove box. Check the ICP sensor for oil in the connector. If you see oil, go ahead and get a new ICP AND connector. Not trying to down you, but these are some of the cheaper fixes that are KNOWN to go wrong with these engines. Just trying to save you from being broke down at 2 am in MA in the snow.

Nevrknow, where is the CPS and ICP connector? just want to know just in case. i will be picking these two things up soon.

Heya clint. As we talked before I'm paranoid but Im all for keeping cheap spare parts around LOL. The CPS ( cam position sensor) is ( looking from the front of the engine) On the lower left of the crankshaft pulley. Best to access it from underneath the truck. The ICP ( injector control pressure ) sensor ( again from the front of the truck) is on the right hand side head right near the valve cover and the front of the engine. The ICP connector is in a wire loom that splits off and also runs to the IPR on the HPOP reservoir.

Need a picture let me know.
