OK guys, his 03 is a 7.3, and I didn't think the 7.3s pulled as much boost as do the 6.0s. If I am right then his 10 PSI should be right in line.

Yep, it's the 7.3L. I'm sorry if I didn't type that out, I know I put it a few places. I just banged this post out right after I signed up.

Hopefully the 10psi that I saw is about right. I got a good deal on this truck and so far it's doing great. Tranny shifts great and it runs pretty well. It has 244k on the clock, but it's still going strong. I'm hoping that I don't have to start pouring a bunch of money into it. A little is fine, but I don't want it to start raping me.

Need to put a 6.0 trans. cooler in there. It's bigger then the 7.3 cooler and will help a lot.

go to the junk yard for a cooler, bolts right up may have to extend the lines a bit though. my truck stock would push 18 maybe 20 PSI boost on a hard pull. maybe exhaust brake is stayin closed a little causing low boost. could be boots leakin like previously said, or a number of things. you will figure it keep posting your findings and an anserw will come up.

Good idea. I'll look at a junk yard one of these days. I'm sure I'll procrastinate a bit, but one day I'll dive into one when I'm going by.

I don't think the exhaust brake is stuck because I think it's inop completely.

Your intercooler boots, down at the intercooler, are also important to check for leaks along with up on the turbo. That is where oil from the crankcase vent tends to settle, and it'll work its way into the boot/tube connection over time and vibration. It's sort of a PIA to get to them at least in my '02 F250, especially on the driver side.

If you go to the trouble to pull the boots, then clean them of all oil and don't be surprised if there is a fair amount. If they're OEM boots you might want to replace 'em: http://www.dieselsite.com/1999-200373ldieselsiteintercoolerbootkit.aspx

PS: just running down the road at 60-70 mph my 7.3 provides under 10 psi typically, running uphills on cruise control it'll run up to as high as 20". I have a waste-gate controller on it so I can squeeze some more boost out of it before the waste gate dumps. I got it from Diesel Site-- called TurboMaster iirc.
