might want to try running michelins, they are a superb on road tire for dry, wet and plowing snow. I will be putting them in mine soon, my father has ran two different sets for 100,000 miles each with no problem. My brother has ran is set for 50,000 now without problems and he airs down with a two ton camper to drive on the beach

This might belong on another thread...
I'm shopping for tires, but am stunned at prices (JLDickmon's prices on silent armor [in this thread] blew me away, but are $100+ less than around here!!! ). But here's what my shopping around has found me so far, for stock replacement of '02 F250 with Goodyear SteelTex LT265/75R16 123/1200 E/MS tires, on-road use, some moderate (10k) hauling:
1. Michelen LTX series $190 each or almost $1000 drive away
2. GoodyearjWrangler Silent Armor, $218 ea one place and $192 ea another, or around $870 ($950 w/road hazard) out the door
3. Firestone Transforce HT Load range "E" 10-ply, $570 (incl. mount/balance) (http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tireselector/dpp/sizespecs.asp?passproductid=1097)
4. BF Goodrich Commercial T/A, appears to be drop in. No price yet.
5. My neighbor's chevy 3/4T has same size, and he just put on a 10ply load range E by Firestone off-brand name I can't recall, $429 out the door.

Other curios: Bridgestone and Goodyear websites say I need a 235/85R16, but I have LT265/75R16 on there and I assume that is the original tire.

So, any tips or other tires to check? Any reason to not stick with the current size? Any deals you know about? What's best 'bang for buck' for the next 100k or so?

Thanks in advance! :hail

Well, first of all, I'm in a highly competitive market.

Secondly, I cannot guarantee pricing in any other market.

On the issue of tire size, check your door placard. It will have the mfr. OE size on it. Just FYI, 235/85R16 and 265/75R16 have the same OD, but the 265 is obviously wider.

As far as bang for the buck, check the various tire threads. I've seen people extoll Cooper, Nitto & Pirelli, as well as the major brands.

Personally, I sell Goodyear and Dunlop. I've had both on my truck. The Goodyear is by far the better product, price be dammed. I've had Uniroyals on it, my bro-in-law swears up and down by Firestone Steeltex.

What I need on my truck, may not necessarily be what you need on yours. Differences in climate, road condition, driving requirements would warrant different tire selection...

My truck is a daily driver during the week, a farm truck on weekends. I might be dragging a haywagon out of a pasture, hauling an RV or a horse trailer to a show.

What does your truck do? Start there.
