Rotors are built and supplied to the auto manufacturers by the lowest bidder.(Thats a Fact)
What's also a fact, is that rotors are designed to meet a certian performance criteria, by the team of engineers that designed the truck. Irregardless of who cast and machined them, or how much they cost. So you're telling us that you know more than the engineers that designed and built the truck? Ford wants to hire you. Send 'em a resume.

What's a fact, is that high-performance rotors are drilled and slotted to reduce heat build-up, and cryogenic treatments reduce warpage. I never said anything about your rotors not being "better" (although "better" is a relative term); all I'm saying is, I don't need them. I'm spending my money elsewhere.

While I'm on the subject, I want to know; Did you upgrade your rear brakes as well? Rear brakes do 45% of the work in stopping the truck.

My brakes have never faded. My rotors have not warped, my ABS has only activated a handfull of times when it wasn't icy out.

Load up a trailer with 5,000 lbs of horses, I've got, A. trailer brakes, and, B. the common sense to slow down.

So, if cryo-treated rotors that are slotted and cross-drilled are all that, and *everyone* needed them, the stinkin' trucks would come with them.

If diesel fuel *needed* cetane booster, ALL fuels would come with it.

If tires *needed* chip and chunk resistant tread compounds, every tire would come with them.

If every interior *needed* one of those pine-tree air fresheners...

Just because you "want" it in or on your truck, doesn't mean everyone does.

i just wanted to add, and i dont know if i mentioned it in my 1st. post on this thread.

but the reason i upgraded, was because of the second set of OEM rotars i pads i had put on, they only lasted about 15,000 miles. now i do have a heavy braking foot, and i may have caused them to go bad too early.

i saw an article on braking upgrades in one of the diesel mags, and they changed the rotars to Power Slots and recommened Hawk pads.

so i called up Power slots and they gave me the parts numbers i would need, and then i ordered them thru SECO performance centers in huntsville, al

the upgrades did make a big diff. when i was hauling cars around the south.

SO, i can see both sides of the discussion. i guess it all depends on what you are using your truck for and if you haul alot.

just my final thoughts.

JL thank you for your input. Unfortunately the link does not work right now. So you know mine warped empty from getting somewhat hot. Ford engineers theirs to work under the designed loading. I guess I just push the limit a little harder. However these breaks (04) are a known weak spot with TSB's and memos to the Doc's on warpage.

North of me on US 550 are three very tough mountain passes. Molas, Coal Bank and the famous Red Mountain. These are normally 7% or better, 35 MPH with hairpin switch backs and reversing curves. I have a blast getting into and out of the power, but this takes a tole on the breaks. I have never had a fading problem, just the warpage.

So I am looking for options and this appears to be one. Not sure I agree on your 55/45 front back on braking power, especially unloaded. I believe it is closer to 75/25 when empty, but cant find the article right now.
