My Trucks' been in the shop since Monday for lack of power complaint.... Now they tell me there's is a new update program that after you shut down the truck the ecm cycles the injectors for 30 more seconds. Has anyone done this yet? Why does Ford want to cycle the injectors after a shut down, I don't understand. I asked them to correct the problem first before compounding it.

mine has had it done, I was told with all the injector problems, this is a step to keep them from failing. the dealer also said that any truck that comes in for any kind of warrenty work will leave with the purge system.

Mine was done last month. I really don't care for it. It's kind of embarassing everytime I shut off the engine. I have learned that if you click the key in the on position immediately after shutting it off, then the cycle will stop. Hopefully, there will be another program coming soon to change this. I have complained to Ford about it.

What exactly is the problem they're trying to fix here anyway? Obvously it's a band-aid for the problem as opposed to the real fix. Are the VT365's having the same problems?

from what I got from the dealer, Ford thinks that the fuel sitting in the injectors is whats causing them to fail. so thats why they have the purge flash

Oh, that's brilliant... so now when the truck is off it will pump raw fuel into the cylinder so it can leak down past the rings, wipe the oil film off the walls, and dilute the oil so the engine goes BOOM faster... yeah, that's a GREAT plan. I think someone in the software department was hanging out in the paintshop again...

actually it's diesel fuel, not gasoline, so you're actually wiping more oil film onto the walls :)

If it's thinner than 15w-40, it's going to be a problem, but I know where you're going... :)

I called the local dealer, and they did a search and said that my truck April 2006 does not need the flash. Maybe it is for the very early 2006 or the 2005 trucks.
