Pete Coors arrested for DUI
By Felisa Cardona
Denver Post Staff Writer

Beer magnate and former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Pete Coors was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and is due to appear in court on the charges next Thursday.

A Colorado State Patrol trooper pulled Coors over after he saw him run a stop sign around the corner from his home in Golden about 11:25 p.m. on May 28.

Coors stopped in his driveway and consented to take a Breathalyzer test. He registered a .088, which is slightly above the .08 legal blood-alcohol limit in Colorado.

He was driving a 2004 green Jaguar, court records show.

Coors spokeswoman Kabira Hatland said the 59-year-old was coming home from a friend's wedding in Denver.

"I made a mistake by driving myself home after a friend's wedding celebration," Coors said in a written statement, shortly after news of his arrest was first reported on DenverPost.com. "I should have planned ahead for a ride. For years I've advocated the responsible use of our Company's products. That's still my message, and our Company's message, and it's the right message. I am sorry that I didn't follow it myself."

Coors was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and registering a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit. He was also cited for running the stop sign.

I am about as anti-DUI as they come but I think eveyone has driven home from some fkind of activity a little more "influenced" than they would like. .088 is not that much and in many states it is legal. He should not have done it but he was not hammered and did not make any excuses for himself. I don't see that it is a big deal at all.

Powerbtr, no one would get locked up for a .088 on a first time offense, why should he?

NAAAA... He's to "Connected". You and I go to jail. The OJ and up types don't. Going to Jail, with the common folk ??? No way. Thats beneath thier Station.

I'd betcha he'l get an "Oral Admonishment", some kind of un-restrictive probation, Maybe the MAX fine (cuz he can afford it) and some Community Service (like make anther M A D commercial... that he can write off)

"WE" go to Jail. "THEY" don't.

soap box out:

first time offense...... how many does it take to kill someone?????
first .088 which is barley out of regs, still he should be shot dead on the spot, i have zero compasion for dui/dwi Period.
there is no reason to ever get behind a wheel and endanger my family or someones else family because of someones poor judgement brought on by alcohol, or drugs even.
ran through a stop sign.... would you like to be the car that just pulled away from teh stop sign and BAM your dead :dunno

this day in age if your out drinking there is no reason you cant take a cab and get your car the next day.

do i like to drink, you betcha, do i get behind the wheel even after one NEVER .
we have enough going on on the roads to deal with, lets not add drunks etc.

just like cell phones, you hit me while yapping on a cell phone, there will be hell to pay, call me an A hole but thats my opinion.

hit me or cause harm to my family due to alcohol or drugs, you better go move in with osama, because its going to be ugly.

we are way to lax on dui in this country and even more blind eyed when it comes to boating and drinking
one more thing since i am ranting. for some UNFR we as americans seem to think its our God given right to drink and drive and we should be allowed numerous infractions. this total BS and once should be it, no drive ever again with a mandatory 1 year in jail, if you hurt someoene else or kill em you go for the electric chair, no sitting in a cell contemplating, and then your family shall pay resistituion since your no longer able.
want to talk about petaphiles -mad -mad
step down off the box now
have a woderful day ;)

If law enforcement can confiscate vehicles for drugs (under certain circumstances), why not for multiple DUIs?? It seems to me that punishment for DUIs is not enough to keep people from drinking and driving. Especially here in Texas.
I definitely think the punishment for multiple convictions is too weak. Our jails are overcrowded, so more time isn't really viable. Take the car away....hard to drink and drive without a vehicle!:rant

Sorry...rant over.

I agree with Robert - I have been hit head on by a drunk that blew a .35. The police actually restrained my mother when she arrived. She saw him standing next to the patrol car and rushed him.

The state should confiscate the car and hand a bus pass in return.

Of note, you do not want to try your luck with DWI in Lubbock. Several people in the last couple of years have received life sentences here for 3rd offense - first one that is a felony. One woman, first offense, ran a stop sign (sound familiar?) and broad sided a pickup killing 3 properly restrained children and crippling the parents. She got life. The children got death.
