I am being told by the dealer that the wiring harness problem was in the early 6.0 not the 7.3? Some one mentioned a second fuel filter? IS there more than 1? I just replaced mine on top the engine. I do it every 12,500.

It is a problem on the 7.3's. I didn't know the 6.0's had it too.

Is that something that I could check out? I have never been inside of a diesel engine. My valve cover gaskets need replaced anyway. I am NOT looking forward to that. What would make those said clips/connections fail or come loose anyway? Thanks. Jim

Well I replaced the driver side valve cover gasket and the injector harness. I do not believe this side had a problem? If by clips you mean the clips that hold the injector in place they were in great shape. The passenger side is another story. I have the parts for it. It is going to be a "Mother" to do. Now I know why the dealer wanted $550 to do the job. I think if this was my problem it would be continuous? Not intermintant? Any other thought please let me know. Many Thanks. Jim

Which injector harness did you replace? There are two for each side. One under the valve cover and the other is outside of the v/c. check for burned plugs at the v/c gasket connection. The connection at the inj. do not fail very often. The connection at the v/c does. It will cause an intermittent miss. The dealer sounds like they do not know what they are doing (not surprised) The 7.3 most certainly had the inj. harness issue even back to the OBS trucks, as well as the 6.0. As far as the r.side v/c goes carefully remove the A/C pump (do not let the freon out) this will allow you to move the v/c in a forward direction as you lift it out. Some trucks will also need to bend the trans dipstick tube for a little more clearance.

Looks like you are getting some good information here Jim. How did the second harness go?

I agree, The dealer was throwing parts at it. :cussing:

Guys you gotta see this E-350. Its a Quigley 4x4 Conversion and he has really added a lot to it. It rolls on 35s. :sweet

Glad to have a fellow Zuk owner on the board here. We gotta get the rest of the PSD owners on Zuwharrie.com to come over here. :D

It seems the same. When I want to give it gas it is a dog. When it acts up I can hear the injectors clicking. Just like when the tech performed a test on them using the scan tool?

I do appreciate all the help. I have no idea what I am doing. I think I'll be a diesel tech by the time I am done? LOL

Hey Powerstroken,
Man I am really behind the times here. I know this post is almost two months old but did you get it fixed?

Is there another dealer nearby?
The 7.3's most assuredly have the clip problem.

The wiring harness problem was also on the 7.3. Don't listen to whoever told you that, they don't know these trucks. Unless you added a fuel filter, there is only one. There is a screen in the fuel tank, but I doubt that is your trouble.

YOu mentioned that it "sounds like a helicopter" when it does it. This sound is generally associated with a stuck lifter, which would definately cause the rig to run rough. Do you idle it a lot? Has any effort been put into finding mechanical (non-electrical) problems?

While I am still leaning towards your UVC wire harness as the culprit, the "helicopter" noise makes me look at lifters as an option, also. Do you idle the truck a lot? A lot of low-temp, low-load operation?
