I've seen folks invert the hitch and drop a goose-neck on the ball. Any port in a storm I suppose.

which hitch have you seen them do that with? I would like to look into that a little more and know if it is actually safe to do that. I would love to be able to keep my cap on and have the option of pulling a tag-a-long, a gooseneck, or a pintle style trailer. I have a light tag-a-long and a heavy duty pintle trailer right now, but never know when you may need to haul a gooseneck or find one at the right price.

The rapid hitch. Look at the photos. The hitch can be mounted into the receiver upside down. Puts the ball about even with the bed. I chit you not, I've seen goose necks pulled this way. The piece of the hitch thats reversible can come off the bottom so you have 2 sizes to work with. I run a 2' and a 2 5/16's. It would have the same strength either way. On edit, go to BP's post # 2, and click his link for rapid-hitch. The photos explain it better than I ever could.
