Hey everyone. I am quickly moving up in needs in a truck. I have had a 97 chevy K1500 5.7 for several years now. It has blown the trans twice in the past year alone. But I have an older car that I am going to be bringing with me wherever I go to include tools etc. I have a 24' (20'box + vnose) car hauler now that I need to upgrade. I am looking to go with a 38Ft (30ft Box) 5th wheel. It will have 3 7k axles with a total weight of 21K.

Should I get a 350 or 450? It looked like I can get a 2008 450 way cheaper then a 2008 350. I have driven cross country many times and it looks like that will not change. Once my car is done I will probably tow it to Car shows.

I will make my choice based on MPG, capacity, ride, and durability with and without the trailer.

Also are the California models any different performance wise. Being from there I know they have different emissions.

Any suggestions advice?

Hey Roscoe, I can't imagine needing any more than a one ton to pull a trailer unless your cross country or going to load it down hard. A one ton will have parts more availible than a 450 would. Mpg's can't be much different, capacity is more on 450, ride goes to one ton, and durability is a split. It's a owner choice. Sorry.

:SDD2 Roscoe. California models do not suffer performance wise. The computer controls seem to have taken care of that problem. Emissions are getting closer all of the time. There are still differences.

Roger, Ok that helped, up until I called about the trailer I was hoping I could be fine with a F250 until I saw the weight and knew I had to do the 350. The 350 DRW will probably be my choice when The time comes.

Dave, I know the emissions were a little different. I plan on going back there sometime and I know how the DMV is with out of state vehicles.
