JUST A REMINDER, 12 days from today, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!
These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 1-888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.
P.S. You must call from the phone that you are adding to the registry.

So is this true or not and does that national number work for my home phone? I am tired of salesmen calling. The snopes thing says 2005. This is 2006.

You must register your cell phone with the national "Do Not Call" directory before 1 January 2005 to prevent your number from being provided to telemarketers: False.

No it's not true - the 2005 just shows that this has been going around for a while now. Just another one of those hyped up internet things.

For your home number - go here:

Did that last night. Would it hurt to enter cell phone numbers too just to be safe?

You could try it - but if you are getting sales calls on a cell phone then you have given the number out and pretty much implies consent to call you.

If your worried about the original topic of this thread - don't be. Nobody put you on a list in 04, nor 05 and it's not going to happen in 06 either.

OK I will not worry. I never get any unwanted calls on my cell and I don't want it to start but it sounds like it is not a problem. Thanks..

Agree that the cell phone thingy is an internet "wives tale" :)
(just check www.snopes.com )

BUT, the do not call register WORKS !!!

May take a bit to weed your number out,
but signed up right when it first started...
(and yes, I put the cells in there too :) )
and after a few months the plethoria of calls dwindle to next to nothing...
and after about a year, they basically stopped....
I don't remember the last telemarketer call we've gotten...

but even before that I started to say
take me off your list and do not call back....

and if they do - report them and they will be fined !!!

Yes it's a good idea to add your cell phone to the Do Not Call list (State and National lists). I work for a company that markets products by telemarketing, we match our lists on a regular basis against the various do not call lists and remove numbers all the time. I see complaints coming in about people getting marketing calls on their cell phones. When we do the research, the customer put their cell phone on their credit card records so (duh?) they were called by a telemarketer. You can also access the website of the Direct Marketing Association at this link: http://www.dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offtelephone to be taken off all calling lists.

Do you ever sell anything? If someone calls me trying to sell me something they would be the last person on the face of the earth that I would ever do business with. I feel like it is harassment plain and simple. Don't call me I will call you if I need something is my motto.
