You can buy a slightly used, low mile (400k), converted Over the road
Tractor (like a volvo) for under 40k all day long !

There are conversion companies buy up the private & fleet tractors,
removing the 2nd Drive Axle, adding a small fridge, port-a-potty,
fresh carpet, new sleeper mattress and giving a new color/coat of
paint on the exterior...and selling 'em for 35ish grand.

oh and adding a new/full floater 5th wheel hitch.

Personally if i had a need for a larger puller (than my 350) id
give something like these conversions a SERIOUS look...more power
and better brakes (built for hauling 80k lbs) w/ LOTS of safety
margin...and it can be services at nearly any truck stop...

we're actually looking into this... if I turn this horse thing into a full time occupation, I'm going to need a bigger rig... I was thinking about like maybe a Freightliner FL50... but then again, one of the guys that works for me bought his tractor (Freightliner cabover) used for about $2,500... he paid more for the drop-deck trailer he uses to haul his Allis-Chalmers' around...
