While i was home on vacation (between going from the Middle East to Anatactica) back in July/Aug I redid my home theater. On a whim i tore down the 70's wood paneling. I should have had a professional do it (Big K i am calling your dad next time ;) ) but i got the job done in about 4 days from start to finish.

I am just now showing the pictures because it took that long for my computer and hard drive with the pictures on them to be mailed down to me.

Just click on the link to see the picture.

Old living room setup. The wood paneling really made the room look old and dark, dont get me wrong the paneling was in perfect shape i just didnt like the look (sorry, i wasnt even born in the 70s :roflmao )

you can tell this is the first time i did this kind of work before, nothing covering the furniture :) ohh well i will be getting Berkline home theater seats next anyway. :thumbs

last day (my parents arrived the next day to visit for a week so i was in a time crunch:D )

http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/8257/dsc00286uw4.jpg <--- need a better solution for the speaker wires
http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/1282/dsc00285pv4.jpg <--- my pride and joy... the $1000 subwoofer :hail

A quick rundown from memory:
Sony 60" XBR2 tv
Yamaha V-661 7.1ch reciever
SVS speakers
SVS subwoofer
PS3 and Xbox 360

My brother said he was watching Star Wars and in one of the chase scenes the subwoofer was knocking pictures off the wall :hail it brought a tear to my eye. The only thing left is to get it professionally calibrated and i will probably have that done when i come home next time.

Wish i was home.

Nice TV.
That receiver has YPAO sound optimization, it can do a better job calibrating it than any professional. You would be wasting your money IMHO.

Are you going to ditch the chandelier? It has a 70s wang to it as well.

My house was built in 72 so it had quite a bit of dark paneling as well. I have most of it gone now but I still have one of the green sinks to replace.

they make flat speaker wire just for this. you can paint or mud over it and it is supposed to be very subtle

I dont know how much it costs to have a professional do it so i still have research to do.

yeah the chandelier will be going too along with other things. I still have the original kitchen (appliances and all), popcorn cieling, wall to wall carpeting even in the bathrooms, etc. I just bought the house a year ago but have only lived in it for a total of about a month because i work out of country.

Yeah i found out about the stuff AFTER i installed everything.

Looks good Mike. My mom had her 1970's paneling painted. I wouldn't have given you a plug nickel for the idea but it turned out looking really, really good!

My grandfather recommended that i just paint it. He had it in his house too but he tore it down and replaced the drywall. I should have listened but you know us young punks, we dont listen to anyone :roflmao

I was looking at Denon but after reading some home theater forums someone mentioned that the format that the Sony PS3 puts out for sound was not compatible with the Denon. Not that it wouldnt work just that the Yamaha would be able to better utilize what the PS3 was feeding it.

Cant wait to have you over again :thumbs
