:dunno Hi Forum, nice tht such things here exist. I own a F350 powerstroke from 1994 and since yesterday i have a problem. This truck was running well since 12 k in which i own it. Full milage is 283 K but it was all the time running very well. I changed engine oil about 5 days ago and after this i used the truck for about 100 miles. Then yesterday in the middle of our city i was turning right on crossing and immidiately the engine died. I could roll to a bus stop and tryed to start again but only "wroom" and stop. I orderd help but after 20 min. i tryed to start and it run very fine. I drove for about 8 miles without problems but then died again. Same procedure - starting not possible so i waited ten minutes and it was running again. Now after 2 miles next stop - same procedure - waiting 10 min - and next 500 yards possible. This morning it started like no problem but i had no trust in this and cleaned the old fuel filter (yesterday i ordered new one but to Poland it takes 4 days). This two liters diesel i used for cleaning have been black like old oil after i was ready. Then after 8 miles it died again, then after 6, then after 3 and now it is standing in the yard. Today when it dies the car was rolling and i set the gear to N and started while rolling and when i was pumping the pedal it came again but only for a moment an then died again. Since a couple of weeks i have also a fuel leak somewhere on top of the engine. All in this V is full of diesel and when i am parking sometimes i have after 10 minutes a two hands big puddle of diesel under the car. I thought perhaps the fuel system catched air inside because of this leak but why it is after 10 minutes ready to go? Please give me a good advice becuase here in poland really nobody knows how to proceed now and they are all afraid to work on american cars. Sorry for my bad English but i try as good as possible. I love my truck but now i am afraid that it will happen again. It happend on main crossing of this small town - you could exect how the people were smiling about this "silly boy" with this too big truck. I am hoping for help - god bless America - and its cars in Poland! By the way: my oil level is o.k. and for the oil changing was used a 15W40 oil which meets the specifications of Ford. My oilpressure-meter in the speedo is not properly working i think. Imidiately after start the engine it was jumping to the middle of range and stood there all the time (alt 700 RPM till 3.000 RPM).Someone was writing in another posting about high pressure oil reservoir - where i could find this? Must i fill up this after oil change manual or is it doing this automaticly? Kindly regards, Janusz

Sounds like you have a bad cam position sensor.
(Ford) F6TZ-12K073-A 94-96
(Ford) F7TZ-12K073-A 97+
(International) 1821720C99 (below engine 375548)
(International) 1825899C93 (above engine 375548)

The fuel leak could be from your lift pump in the valley of the engine, fuel lines or the filter bowl. The leak acumulates in the valley then runs out a weep hole in the back of engine. You will have to dry the valley to find the leak.

The oil in your HPOP will stay there during your oil change. Some take the plug out of the top and suck the oil out(about a quart)then add fresh oil. I don't bother with it.Others will chime in good luck and welcome to SDD.

Your English is good :sweet

The reason your oil pressure guage goes to the middle and stays there is because it is just a idiot light in disguise. It will never do anything but go to the center unless you lose pressure.

I would agree with clem that a cam position sensor would be a good place to start. When it dies and wont start does the tach move at all during cranking? If not then it is a tell tale sign of a cam sensor problem.

The fuel leak in the valley could be the fuel bowl. They seem to go bad on some trucks.

Retry today!

Hello Forum,

today i tried it again. The cold car was runnig about 2 hours on the yard, then i drove about 1,2 miles and it died again. But no check engine light burnt and by trying to start again, the needle of the RPM gauge was sometimes moving a little. (not continously but with only two seconds brake sometimes.
Do really think it is the CPS by this symptomatic or could it be that the fuel systems takes air inside through the leak i have in fuel system?
Why i read that it happens often short times after oil change? What reason could be for this?
Thanks for help from far Europe!

Hi Janusz, and WELCOME to SDD. Just so you get a group opinion.. I would also agree that your Cam Position Sensor (CPS) would be the first thing to replace. The symptoms you describe are what happens when a CPS goes bad.

Also, Your Fuel filter. As a rule, you should never try to clean a fuel filter and re-use it. Just replace it, with a New, clean one. Clean your fuel filter
houseing also before you install the new filter.

Hope this all helps you get your "Too Big Truck" going again.

heres a 4th vote for the CPS as well.but im surprised nobody caught this one yet on the fuel leak.

your fuel leak is most likely the rubber gasket on the filter.after the filter has been installed and run the gasket swells.when you remove the filter and put it back in the gasket wont seal and causes a leak.sometimes they just seep a little and other times itll pour out of it.ive never been able to reuse a fuel filter without it leaking

Fuel leak is old problem

Hi Forum, the fuel leak is old problem and not depending from the fuel filter gasket. It is coming from somewhere under the fuel filter and i would like to know if there is perhaps a usual problem or i must search by building everything away from there. Has the fuel pump also a thermo control? Must my "check engine" light burn if the CPS failes?
