My auto has a problem

Hi today my 02 7.3 was running great, need fuel and filled up, on the road again the OD light came on and it started to play up not bad till the temp went through the roof, got home and now R for race will not work.
It is like the handbrake is on but no movement will drive forward but not back.
took the pan off , the oil smells a little burnt no crap in the pan i am lost.

"R for race", do you mean reverse?

have you checked your brakes since you got the truck?

do you have a code reader?

sound like something in side busted, clutch band, sun gear. 3rd and reverse are the same clutch pack I beleave

Yes dpantazis r is for reverse, in OZ r is for race and d is for drag, the brakes are fine as i can push the truck around ok , no i do not have a code reader it is on the list of things to get. Thanks for the input but it is of to the shop we go.

The direct clutch might have taken a dump if you dont have 3rd.If you have 3rd the reverse clutches could have taken a dump. Other causes for no r (race) would be a bad pump,loose control body bolts or a stuck valve.

Sounds about like what mine did to me. But when DI dropped the pan it was full of crap from were the TC came apart.

Hope you find something a little simpler then having to buy a hole new tranny like I did.
