Going a little SOUTH might save you some coin. Georgia is beautiful, but it also has a state income tax that you would have to pay if you became a resident. You or the spouse taking a job outside the miltary will trigger that. The vehicle registration fees aren't cheap, either, but they're nothing like California. Florida isn't all that far from you, and if you are buying a house, there is no income tax in Florida for residents, if you leave the service banged up the state gives you some good bennies, too. I'm 100 percent service connected disabled (I wish I COULD work!) but Florida takes care of its vets. Fully disabled veterans pay no ad valorem tax on their homestead and get one vehicle registration for just $5. Hunting, fishing, and drivers licenses are free for disabled vets, too.

I don't have anything against the Peach State. Fine place to live, I had homes in Albany and Atlanta, I joined the AF in Atlanta.

Good luck to you no matter where you decide to drop anchor. :D

Good to know, I maintain my NY residency. No income tax for active duty military. However, the wife is usually required to become a resident. We looked at some homes last night online in Yulee. Looks like a decent place.

Sure all that from an even numbered Chief. (Don't trust'em) I've talked to subman a couple times. He's also a Missile Tech. I am leaving the rate (and the goat locker) I guess some call it "quiting". I'm headed to SWFLANT as an ENS.:dunno

We are also looking for a place to buy down there. Any good areas. We are thinking maybe a little north.

I didn't even try to get these orders. I had orders to stay put. Then I got a phone call: San Diego or Kings Bay. Then I got another phone call 2 hours later: Kings Bay. So Kings Bay it is. The good thing is I don't think my rain guage could be filled in 3 days like it did here. (10")

My Office Managers Husband is a Missile Tech at Kings Bay. He will be retiring early next year. They have just put there house up for sale. Close to Schools and Shopping!! They want to move to VA. or NC. It's a great place!!

BTW: It can rain 10" in 10 Hours down here. Although this year we are only half of our normal. and we got all that early this year. We are very dry down here right now!!

If there is somebody out there please let me know. I'll just go on and on about how great it is and blah blah blah.:roflmao Its too bad that it will take a year and a half for somebody to go to school to learn how to do my job. That's ok though, my replacement is already here.:hail I kind of feel bad for the nubs, being a senior guy, you now how bad they've got it for the next year or so. Its going to be great teaching the baby nukes, don't know what to do with all of the free time I'm going to have. Guess I'll need to invest in some fishin' rods and a boat.:thumbs
