I have a noise when in drive & taking off, it sounds like the motor mount rubber is gone & it is hitting a metal stop of some kind. It also sounds like some metal to metal vibration while driving. Can the motor mount loose the cusion& still stop the motor from rolling?:dunno

I looked online at the Ford Direct Parts site and they have no description or picture of the mount, so I can't tell. Check with Napa Auto Parts.

The short answer is yes... if the rubber is completely gone, it will not be long before the retaining bolt wears through....

Are you sure the vibration/noise isn't from the exhaust system, or a I/C charge tube hitting on something when the engine torques over, when in gear.. ? or under a load ??

Unless you can see an obvious motor mount issue.. you might take a real good look at those things First. :dunno

Is the noise the same when you are standing on the brake and applying a snap of the throttle in forward and reverse? (essentially power braking in short bursts)

crawl under the truck and look @ the transmission mount, make sure it's there and all is good to go the above throttle trick will reveal if it is engine mounts as well as having someone do this while you watch the engine for abnormal jumping when the throttle is hit. (please do not stand in front of the truck)

I`ll take a look at the trany mount , but it won`t do it every time. We were talking about this last night ( I`m on night shift ) & a buddy said his Chevy`s drive shaft splines made the same sound when it was dry.

I was guna mention the slip joint spline's too ? And the carrier bearing itself. . Mine would make an intermittent clunking sound, and I'd get a little vibration.. Clean and regrease the splines.. it would go away.

But, After 165K, alot of it towing.. (and being a 6 spd).. the Carrier bearing finally went south.. Sooo.. I R&R'd the carrier bearing, and installed 4 new, greasable U-joints.

No more Clunks. Like New.
