Well bought myself some more gauges today, under dash 3 gauge pod... Oil temp, fuel pressure, and air pressure. The gauges are all autometer sport comp to match my others and oil and fuel are electic... 2 of them got back ordered -mad so i'll have to wait on them but should be here by the time i get it painted. Got all of them because I still think my fuel pump is doing something funky figured i might as well get them all, the air pressure will have to wait untill i get a compresor installed so it will be just for looks for awhile.

Does anyone have the ford part number for the paint to match the tan interior on a 2000, i seemed to have lost it?

Second, what size is that plug on the fuel filter and the plug on the oil filter housing, cause i need to convert them to 1/8npt (i think the oil one already is? but not positive)

The fuel pressure port on the back of the fuel filter is a SPECIAL THREAD. I dont know it off the top of my head, but I believe Bob Riley on Dieselsite.com sells the right adapter.

i have seen that, but a six dollar brass fitting is a little hard for me to swallow... i have been reading up on using the 1/8 fuel pressure test port on the front of the passenger side valley, what i read said it was a more accurate reading as well because it will give you your pressure at the injectors where as the fuel filter could give a false reading because of stuff like a plugged filter... does anyone know a con to using this port?

For what it's worth NHRA (Nat Hot Rod Assn) rules forbid fuel lines in the drivers area.

Of course were talking gasoline engines, don't know if I'd want a fuel line in the cab or not.

At least use a braided steel line rated for the high pressure.
Can get them from Summit Racing.

I personally would use the fuel rail myself. Your right, its what the injectors would see. As for what type of gauge, I would use something that had a seperator. Keep everything under the hood, and then just run an electical wire into the cab to run the gauge.

May be able to use an electric Oil Pressure sensor and gauge.

the electric fuel gauge comes with the sender from autometer, it is complete except for the wire.. just to be positive does anyone have a pic of the 1/8 fuel pressure port on the front of the pass. side head, i just want to make sure i get the correct hole

just for giggles does anyone know what the "special thread" ford uses on the plug on the back of the fuel filter bowl... lools like a standard "straight fitting" that uses parallel threads instead of the npt with narrows towards the end (a "npt to sae" brass adapter)

ok just incase i'm not the only one that wants a fuel pressure gauge (or reading this thread) and thinks buying a $6 brass fitting would be about as painfull as getting kicked in the stones here is the skinny

the fitting on the back of the fuel bowl is a 7/16-20 straight thread connector, it is commonly used on brake stuff

the fitting you need is available at www.mcmaster.com for $2.55 part number 50925K172 this is the correct brass fitting to go from the 7/16-20 to 1/8 npt (most sending units) and has a o ring for the seal on fuel bowl side... they also have one with a 1/4 npt if you have the need for one of those as well

if you want to get one more step cheaper you can use a 7/16-20 regular brass fitting and convert it to the npt, but it wont have the o ring provision and you will most likely have to seal it with some tyoe of pipe dope that works with fuel and NOT teflon tape

this port with this connector could be used for a electrical under hood / incab gauge or a under hood mechanical gauge

i'm still waiting on my gauge so see how big the sending unit is because i would like to use the port on the front of the passenger side head but that is awfull tight in there and not sure if it will fit without using a array of fittings to get it where i need it... can you say leak

Yep, I've been keepin up on this, even though I have a pressure gauge under hood. It is connected to the very port you speak of on the head (in a way). Just shhhhh, don't let my truck know it's suppose to leak You can find a pic of the fittings I used to navigate that tight space. So far 10-12k miles and no leaks. I'll be interested in the sending unit that comes with your gauge. (didn't you say they were Autometer?)
