Just dropped trailer off for a few weeks in the North. 31 ft. Pilgrim - 11,000lb loaded. Avg. 11-12 MPG driving as slow as 55MPH, and as fast as 75 MPH (10 - 11 MPG). Wind condition and the frontal area of your trailer (yours sits even higher than mine as a 5th wheel) creates a huge drag. No shortage of power. Mine is a one (1) ton, and I recommend it with the load you're moving; you'll forget it's back there literally. One the way home, unloaded, she averaged 19.2 MPG running 60 MPH on cruise. Dropped to 17.5 MPG at 75 MPH. Truck currently has 10,500 miles. Numbers don't seem much different than yours. Hope this helps.

Thanks again, I have heard that there is a chip out there that really improves power and fuel mileage for these Fords. I have a Edge in my Duramax, it gives it a hell of a pile of power but doesn,t increase mpg. I tried towing in all the different ranges and the best mileage was when the chip was off.

First, you cant even begin to speak averages on 250 miles!! Might as well not say anything about mileage if that's how you are going to figure it.

Month of May 06, 4,758 miles on my 06 16.3 MPG! 2,695 of those miles are Hwy and at 55 MPH. About 300 of those towing a 10,000# trailer. The rest mostly below 55 MPH in town.

Forget about an Increase of fuel mileage with a Chip or a programmer it doesn't happen. But it sure does wake them up.

This has been an issue for me ever since I got my '06 350.

I tend to get around 10 to 11 mpg towing a 9k lbs load. I cruise at around 65 to 70 mph. Not bad I guess, there is plenty of power. The ball buster is that my business partner tows the same load in his modded Dodge Cummins, and he gets 19 mpg. I must admit that I am having a little buyer's remorse!

What kind of mods did he do to his Dodge? Can you do the same to your FORD.
