methanol and lye

Ok so I have made a successful batch of fuel and have ran it, I notice a little less power and smoke but much cheaper. now I figured up my cost and I came up with a 1.98 a gallon. I payed 280 for a barrel of methanol and have not found a good place to buy the caustic soda so it cost me 7.99 for 908 grams in Roebic drain cleaner. so where does everybody get theirs and how much? I'm not complaining about 1.98 vs 4.85 but think it can be made cheaper. In this area I tried PGG (for those of you know who that is its a farm supply place) and they said they do not sell sodium hydroxide. so back to square one I guess. and the methanol is actually 328 a 55 gallon drum. But I bought the 280$ barrel from a guy who was not able to use it anymore and had it stored. Lee

Muddy,many Performance Race shops retail methanol by the 55 gal drum,check to see if there's any in your area also fuel,oil,etc supplier/distributors may stock methanol by the drum.

On the sodium hydroxide I know you can obtain by the sack from chemical suppliers but many require a business license to make purchase,see if your employer might have an account with one locally. Last time I went with a friend to pick up some he paid like $40 for a 35 or 40lb sack.

Thansk bill, I have called several of the fuel distributors and they are anywhere from 328 to 525 dollars a barrel for the methanol. My girlfriends dad has a licence since he is in pest control so I have an in there. but is this close to what everybody is paying for the methanol? that makes my fuel well over a dollar a gallon, which is good but not quite where I hoped to be.
