Hello All,

Ok, same old tale I suppose.....I have a OBS 97 F250 HD w the 7.3 PSD. I want to get the horsepower up to 350 or so, but be able to pull my 5th wheel RV (11k lbs.) without hurting the motor due to performance mods. I have a free flow intake, a Banks turbo exhaust (down pipe), and 4" exhaust all the way back w free flow muffler. Installed a chip set with 80hp on highest setting. It has pretty good power, but if I pull in the high setting, of course my EGTs are way high. I am going to add an intercooler this spring, but I want to know what turbo changes, injectors upgrades, and HPOP work I should do to get the HP and torque way up safely. I would change the chip too if needed. Just want great power and reliability

Thanks

I think the best way to protect the engine is to install a pre turbo pyrometer and not let the exhaust temp exceed 1200 F or so. They will cool down a lot if you let them rev a bit.

I would add an intercooler, stage I injectors, a custom tuned chip tuned for the injectors, and maybe an HPOP (stock 17 degree would probably handle it, but there are other aftermarket choices such as the Adrenaline, SRP1, and T500). If you wanted a new turbo, a D66 from BDP will drop right in. In addition to that, you will really need to upgrade the transmission (I'm assuming you have the E4OD) with larger injectors and a chip. At the very least you will want to upgrade the torque converter (probably a modded 6.0 at the minimum), the valve body (BTS a good choice), and a larger cooler with 3/8" lines (SuperDuty lines). Of course all of this is only my opinion. Cheers!

Patrick pretty well covered what needs to be done, if you stick with stock injectors adding an intercooler will allow you to pretty much max out the injectors without EGT issues which is what your 80hp chip does.

Be very careful not to toast your transmission with extra power especially while towing.

What patrick and bj said.

For what you want you only need stage 1 injectors, custom programming on the chip, and a super duty 17 degree hpop and a super duty intercooler.if auto trans a few mods will be a good idea.bigger cooler lines, bigger cooler and don't beat on it! To do bigger cooler lines you will need the fittings from a 99-up 4r100.

A modded idm will really help in the low end grunt department.can be done your self if you know how to solder.
