I'm looking for a mapping software I can edit. I need to be able to pull a map of our county and add delivery points and other logistical info on it, clinic sites, hospitals, large sites, small sites etc... Does anyone have any suggesitons? I can find all kinds of maps ready to go but nothing I can edit...

Thanks guys

my garmin gps pda will do that you add waypoints and can add what it is and have it route to the point.

garmin
they have updates now, but i have been very pleased, had it just over 2 years
aslo many RV gps programs have editable sites and such
i would think most gps software for laptops would be able to handle the load

I use MS Streets and Trip for work. You can edit it as far as adding landmarks, highlighting areas, text boxes, lines, etc. It has many points of interest icons you can add, like Hospitals, restaurant's, vehicles, numbers, buildings, etc. I'm not sure how elaborate you need it to be. Sounds like your looking for something more. Also, the version I have is a few years old so they may have upgraded the functionality by now.

MS Street and Trips will allow you to search by address etc...you can add additional TEXT to the address "balloon" if you want.

in the event an address is not in the current version (2006) you can place
the balloon or "push pin" where you need it and add text.

when i give someone directions i often add phone numbers and better
descriptive NAMES to the addresses shown on MS S&T.

I bought my last copy at costco for 14 bucks AFTER rebate.

I also use my garmin gps3+ to feed Streets & Trips realtime gps/location
data to my LAPTOP which i use in my truck.

I'll have to look into MS Streets. What I need to do is get a map of the county, show and label where our clinics, offices and the such are located. Plus color code who does the most mail, lab work etc...for presentations. I'm currently using a wall map with color dots (you messing with my dots? I love that commercial) but the higher ups frown when I pin it to their wall. I'd like to edit all I need on it and be able to print it as a hand out. Is this making sense?

I use MS S&T for exactly what you are needing....its not complete stand
alone product but its a good start....

I map the stuff in S&T then take a SNAP SHOT (hi-res) jpeg w/ Adobe or
JASC PaintShopPro of the map and then over lay details, merge images
company logos, stats etc.

I dont know of a SINGLE product that will get you what you need...youre
gonna have to use more than one program i suspect.

You guys are a wealth of info. I told our MIS people about it and they're gonna order me a copy. Thanks. I think the push pin feature will almost give me what I want and for a product under $50 it looks like a good start...

:thumbs

thanks all

you know, sometimes it even helps to go the old fashion way along with todays tech. get a phone number for the place you are going and give them a call to double check the directions. the maps are just a good visual aid for me. shoot, even a trucker's rand mcnally from a truck stop is a good idea to have in the rig. the big spiral editions are about 40.00 bucks, but a great thing to have around.
