I have a 06 6.0 250 and have a question about the tranny. For the last 15 years I have been driving tractor/trailers moving the Airforce and have always found the manual better for towing. I tow a 33ft keystone trailer and pull it fine with my auto but dont know how the manual feels. I also miss shifting and don't mind traffic. Any one have input on a SD w/man tranny.:thanks

If you like shifting, get a manual. I got tired of shifting and bought an Auto. Both are good trannies.

I'll prolly never buy an automatic, love my 6 speed, 228,000 miles all original. New clutch 7,000 miles ago (first one) pulled trailers 90% (or more) of those miles...:sweet

Yaz, Welcome to SSD.com Hope you come back often, that's a good looking truck. I have a 06 auto and pull a 16500 + RV and it has done great for the past 31,000 miles. After driving on the road for 36 years I wanted to be shiftless. :roflmao

:welcome :welcome3 :welcome2 :welcome3 :goodluck

If you did a lot of city driving, stop and go, or steep hills like in San Francisco, then the auto would be your best choice.

If you are towing, and want trouble free miles, good mpg, and control going up or down hills, then the manual is the way to go.

I am happy with our manual. We ordered it from the factory for the above reasons. 18.5 mpg average empty, 13.1 mpg towing a 5th wheel, great control going up or down grades. Less things to go wrong.

The only negative is that it is a dog in 1st and 2nd gear.

Just my opinion. :D

I love the manual. Maxtor is right about the low gears though. It's a dog to get moving with a heavy load, but not impossable. So far I've got a little over 110k on mine and had to upgrade the clutch here recently due to Elite's "Insanity file" :sweet I get 23.5mpg empty with the "high-power" file and around 16-17 towing ~10k with the "tow-power" file.
