Tree situation update:
Well, I got the tree off the house. The tree service guy was able to lift the tree off the house, swing it over and drop it to the ground. Then they cut it up, mulched the branches and cut the trunk up into campfire length pieces.
So I have some splitting to do and I'll have campfire wood for a LONG, LONG time.
I just had a brand new roof and seamless gutters put on this fall, so now some of that will have to be re-done. I had some leftover shingles that I used to cover over the broken & exposed sections. Hopefully that will keep it good until spring when the weather will be more agreeable for repairs.
The damage looks to be just the eave/overhang that extends outward from the last roof truss. It looks like the main roof structure is ok. Some of the main roof decking will have to be replaced because they come in 4'x8' sections. The eave is only about 1' to 2' wide, but the sections of broken decking extend another 4' to 6' into the main roof structure.
The tree scraped and put a small hole in the siding on that side of the house too, so the siding on the entire west side will have to be replaced. But since it is 15+ years old and faded, it won't match the rest of the house. So the insurance company says they'll pay to re-side the entire house.
So I think I have to say, State Farm is taking good care of me so far.
Come spring, I'll get my brand new roof & gutters restored to the way they were and get new siding to boot.
I could have come out a lot worse on the deal.
