ford uses an "indirect" tpms and it works in COMBINATION
w/ the abs sensor ring to KNOW the tire is moving.

the FORD, GM, TOYOTA, Nissan indirect TPMS system will
NOT provide read outs until the car/truck is moving.

resets require a special tool and "re-airing" the tire will
take 2min. to register (so users wont be able to use
a DASH light instead of a REAL tire pressure gauge) !

its worth noting that the sensors are REGISTERED to the
each wheel & car/truck AT THE FACTORY

It is important to note that your car will not warn you about low
tire pressure as soon as you start your car. Your car has to be moving
at least 20 MPH (32 km/h) for two minutes before it will register that
there is a problem.

If you need to use your spare tire, the TPMS system will continue to
warn you that there is a problem with the road tire until you repair
the tire and place it back on your car. The TPMS system will become
fully functional again, only when you have repaired and remounted
the wheel/tire on your car.

After putting air into your tires, the TPMS will not respond immediately
to the air you have added. You will need to drive your car for two minutes,
moving faster than 20 MPH (32 km/h) for the light to turn off after you
have filled your tires to the recommended inflation pressure.

I just finally took delivery of my truck yesterday and the dealer installed my readylift 2.5 lift and bmf wheels with 35/12.50r20 fc cepek's. We totlly forgot about getting the wheel sensors out of the old rims so now i have the warning light on the dash. My question is, is there anyway to bypass or fix the problem without all the leg work of switching them out??

if the dealer dropped the ball on not swapping out the sensors, then go tap dance on someones desk till it gets done on their dime. there is no excuse for ingnorance of the feature that has been mandated (somebody spent alot of money researching and found out a WHLE bunch of drivers never check their air pressure, this you can easily back up by observing cars in traffic with LOW tires).

the ford site also states the system may not be compatiable with aftermarket wheels, which gets you back to bush's comment on disabling a
system
if they installed new wheels on a new truck and sold it as a packeage... did it come with a warranty voiding statement as well, not just for the tires, but the lift. something to think aboout down the road if it should break.:dunno
thanks bush for the detailed breakdown.
i hope you get it worked out

truth be known the system is WORTHLESS...the tpms systems
dont ALERT <as mandated by FEDERAL LAW> until the pressure drops 25% !

still doesnt help, cause you basically CANT by-pass the system.

im agreeing that TPMS suck and wont solve any problems.

im also agreeing that you CANT by pass the systems...and
that if not NOW, soon, itll be part of your safety inspection

Dealership told me that a 3 psi difference among the tires will trigger the light. Mine keeps comming on but the tires are filled. I took it to the dealer and they said it was because the change in temperatures (when i was home on vacation is was cold one day then hot the next).... what ever, i will take care of it when i am home next vacation.

i guess it depends on what its programed for...but its SUPOSED to
be triggered by a 25% drop in pressure even at 30psi that would
be 7.5psi (not 3psi)

My added experience TPMS

I Kept my 20" Factory wheels but changed tires and at first received the idiot message on the dash regarding low pressure. Shawn at the local Les Schwab contacted several people and came to the final determintation that there was no way around maintaining the sensor. The good news is that instead of the Ford/Goodyear recommended pressures of 80psi(wow) I have been able to slowly back off until I am running 62psi front and 66psi rear without tripping the sensor, which is at the top end of the pressure for the tires I now have. Have fun;tu
