Tonite as I was leaving work truck seemed to be running fine. It suddenly lost power and was misfiring. Limped it back to work at a max 10 mph. Changed fuel filter and checked harness at valve cover. The harnesses were tight and no loose wires. Going to pull the chip tomorrow. Any other advice would be great.

Had the same problem a few months back. Sudden loss of power, no get up and go, misfiring, no trouble engine codes, etc. Went through all the necessary troubleshooting, checked wiring connections, removed chip programmer, changed fuel filters, etc. After the filter was changed, I noticed that when I tried to fill filter housing by turning the key on, that there was no familiar humming from the fuel pump. Investigated and found that the fuel pump had quit working. Changed fuel pump and pre-pump filter. Problem was solved and truck runs better than before. Also, be sure to check fuses related to fuel pump before buying new pump. Hope this helps.

Truck now will not start. Pulled the chip still no start. I did notice that I can hear gurgling coming from the fuel pump. It starts out with the normal whirring sound. After about 30 to 60 seconds I can hear gurgling. Fuel pump bad or air getting into fuel line? How can I check the pump?

New problem?

I replaced the fuel pump it seems to have more pressure but I'm still getting air. Looks like I'm going to do the tank mods I planned on a year ago. A freind of mine stopped by with his code reader and found P1316 IDM Injector circuit/IDM codes detected. Would the fuel problem set this code or do I have another problem to look into? The idm seems more likely to me since this problem showed up without any warning. Next question. Where is the idm and how can I check it?
