Lost horsepower with intake and exhaust

Yesterday, I had a local performance shop install the AFE stage II intake kit and MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust, removing the cat, on my 05' F250. They gave her a couple pulls on the dyno before and after the install. It showed my truck actually lost 20 horsepower after the install! -mad She pulled 242 stock (which the owner said was the highest he'd ever seen on a stock F250 and he owns two himself). After the intake and exhaust were installed though, she was pulling only 223! What's up with that? The guy told me the air/fuel mix wasn't giving enough fuel with the stock system so I needed a programmer. Needless to say, I'll be adding one very soon.

After picking her up last night, I did notice an immediate gain of 2-3 MPG (from 13.8 to 16.4) on the trip computer on the highway. And I love the sound and look of the MBRP duals on there. Just a little dissapointed with the dyno results.

WhataBudro drove his truck for a while with just an intake and exhaust and no chip/programmer. It seemed almost like it had a low end power lag. After the programmer it seemed to come around.

I believe that the truck computer has to learn the new parts you put on . If you did the dyno right after the install I would expect that. drive it for a hundred miles and try it again..... let us know.

I believe the dyno operator needs to learn their dyno :)

and the "air pump" we call an engine...

and a bit about BS'ing the customer :)

he could work as a Ford Svc writer he's got the "deflect the issue to something else" responses JUST right :)

FWIW: When I installed my 4" on my X (I already had my SCMT, AFE Stage II). I ended up with real bad low-end turbo lag almost felt like stock-mad , top end was OK, not great. When I installed my wicked wheel. It took care of the low end lag and more power at the top end. :thumbs

Yes, I installed an intake, exhaust and gauges on my 2000 truck within 6 months of purchasing it, and lost low end power. I never installed any tuner or chip until 2005 when the warranty ended. You will see better egt's with the exhaust and intake and it will perform better while towing.

I think you lost low end torque on the dyno because you lost back pressure to help spool the turbo. Since horsepower is nothing more than a formula derived by torque, rpm, etc that is the reason your numbers are lower.

If you plan on installing a tuner on the 6.0 I would highly recommend doing LOTS of research first before choosing a product. Price should not be the determining factor and broken parts and problems should be.

By the way, welcome aboard, I've been out of pocket for a few weeks.

If he disconnected the batterys and then did the install, the tranny was running on DUMB... You cant work on these things and then throw them right back on the rollers. You have to let the tranny relearn how to shift to get good numbers. Take it back and try it again... Bet your numbers will be about 260-270 easy... Trust me!

I haven't dyno'd again since the intake and exhaust were installed 2 weeks ago. But, I have noticed the power has improved. I am curious to see if the numbers are much higher now. I'm thinking they would be.

Whern i was speaking with Banks teh tech said that the dual exhaust performs worse than the single exhaust.

Which really leads me into a selfish question. All all exhaust the same?

Banks wants over a 1000 bucks to install a system and over 800 for just the part. I have been looking for a turbo back system and found a magnaflow for just over 8 installed, with a cat delete, something banks doesn't offer.

I need a little advice since the desiel is a new thing to me and I just don't want to be towing with a constant anoying "NOISE."
