I am going to be in the market for a new truck soon. We just bought a 2004 Coachman Dream Catcher 36 ft 5th wheel. It weighs around 10K lbs and my truck will tow it but I have over 500k miles on it and don't want to make any long trips with it. I only want to spend around $25,000 because I hate a payment. What would you guys look at to use as a daily driven work truck that can tow this camper? 250 or 350, single or dually? I tow a trailer with power washing equipment for work. Thanks in advance!;tu

To pull a 36ft, 10K+ (with your gear) lb 5'r...... I'd be looking for a F-350 Dually... and be done with Any towing issues.

I would get the biggest engine/transmission combo you can afford and then look at the truck. If you can afford a 6.7 in the first year, then go for it. It is a god engine. You know about the 7.3 and I like the 6.0 but a lot of people don't. I am hearing 'stay away form the 6.4'! Your choice, but that is my opinion.

Would a 6.7 single be able to pull this 36 ft camper or would it need to be a dually? Also what kind of mileage would I be getting? My 7.3 gets horrible mileage.

The 6.7 makes 440 horses with 860 foot pounds of torque. Those are impressive numbers. I don't know about the mileage, Ford does not claim anything for miles per gallon. I am sure it is in there somewhere but not that I could find. I would guess not too great with all of that power. I can get 20 mpg in my 6.0 if I drive 55 miles per hour, which I don't very often. I get about 17 average, all around.

What Dave said. The stock 6.7 has Plenty of power. PLENTY.

I'm seeing 16~18 around town.. 18~ 20 at my 62 MPH edict thing... empty.

I was seeing 11~12 towing our 30ft, 10K+ Montana 5'r.. but recently bought a new 29ft Reflection (by Grand Design)..... Seems a bit better (?) but to soon to tell.

Joe

A 350 single would pull the 36 footer.. no problem. But a Dually would give you the stability, ride and overall "Roadability"... you'd ever want.

JMO.. an' Jus' my .03

Normal city driving I'm around 13-14mpg. The freeway up to my buddies place usually gets me 17mpg. I haven't done more than 30ish miles on the freeway unloaded. Driving to and from AZ I was just shy of 14mpg towing my boat. Which weighs about 5k and I had a regen on the way out. Plus I kept forgetting the boat was back there and the speed kept creeping up to 70mph.
