looking at a 97 f250

Hi, I'am new here and I was looking at a 97 f250 7.3 with 150,000miles it has 4.10s. It is a regular cab xlt. For $8,495 and was wondering if it was a good buy. I also would like to know what to look for as of problems.

hard to say without an inspection. Take a read about 1/3 way down here. He gives good advice on what to look for on used trucks.

Steve Baz's page are required reading. My advice (bought mine @162,00 miles) If after doing all the research ( you'll begin to see how the mileage and the prices flow) and looking around at comparable trucks (truck trader...) if you still like it take it to a good diesel shop and spend a few bucks ona compression test and try your best to watch and ask questions of the mech w/o being a pest. This site is awesome for any questions you have. Tate

Seems to be a reasonable price for a good truck, mileage isn't too high, There was a problem with the early trucks and a poorly sealing airbox. This resulted in dirt getting into the engine and will show up on a compression test or by looking at the compressor wheel in the turbo

My truck also has 4.10's and mileage depends on how you drive the truck and how fast you want to go. The 4.10's are great when I hook to a heavy trailer but running empty leave me looking for another gear. When running in the 55-65 neighborhood I can pull 19-20, I actually got 18.5 comming out of SLC headed to Denver I took US 40 over the Rockies. Under normal driving conditions around 70-75 I pull down 15-16mpg. I also get around 15-16 when driving in the city unloaded.
