They should be... I have an 03 with 91K on it and it has been farily trouble free. The trouble children seemed to rare theit ugly heads fairly early in life. I would gan an OASIS report from the Service Department of your local friendly Ford Dealer and see what the history is on the truck. If it has been back to the shop at a dealer, it would show on the report. If it is minor stuff... I bould not be to conserned..... or of it has been on of the issues that are known and fixed, like a EGR Valve issue, headgaskets, it may be okay also. If it has spent most of its life in the shop, unless it is a KILLER deal, I would run. Also, find out if it has/had a tuner/programmer on it. IF they are left alone (stock) they are much happier than turned up, unless some aftermarket upgrades have been done. Mine is 100% stock and has been since day 1, I am the second owner and the first owner was an older couple that used it to tow a small trailer. I tow and I have not had any problems. It has been in for 1 reflash for a cold start issue, and needs an ICP Sensor replaced now..... other than that, feed it good diesel from a busy station (diesel wise) and do the routine maintenance as recommended. I run MotorCraft 15w40 convential (Dino) oil and ONLY MotorCraft Filters and change every 5k miles. I change the fuel filters (there are 2) every 10k with ONLY MotorCraft Filters. I have no hesitation to jump in the drivers seat and drive it anywhere. Last weekend it went almost 600 miles and wil be another 3-400 this weekend..... If it has had a good life, you will be very pleased.

I have a 2004 and it has been pretty much trouble free. I bought it new and it has 71 and change on it right now. Besides normal service I have done an alternator, had a rear main seal under warranty and my EGR valve just crapped out the other day. I tried to clean it but I think its done. I just unplugged it for now but just need to stop by the parts store for a new one.
