hey guys,
so i went and picked up my 02 F350 4x4 yesterday and she is a bueat! now its time to dress her up a little bit. i am looking at the general grabber AT2's. the only thing is that in the 305/70/16 and the 315/75/16 are load range D. the 315's are rated at 3195 and the biggest E's they have are 3415. i do not tow hardly anything, but would like to be prepared in the future. ya'll think i could run them without any problems? my truck does have a leveling kit so i should be okay with clearance issues. i can pick the 315's up here at the local shrevport tire rack distro center for $170 a piece.

anything over 3100lbs is good..
look at your axle ratings and divide by two (the number of tires on the axle)

I would stick with the E's if I was you. I went through the same thing a couple months ago when I put my Michelins on. Ended up getting a little smaller tire so I could stick with E's

so does psi rating matter? The e's are rated for 80 and the d's are rated for 50? Wtf? Is the load rating based off of the psi, the max load, or a combination of both? I noticed on tire rack for the general grabbers that for the 235/85/r16s are rated at 3042 lbs 80 psi and the 315/75r16s are rated at 3195 lbs at 50 psi. This is kinda confusing.

You can run the D rated tires as long as the max load weight is higher than the
E load tire. Load E tires are a ten ply tire where as Load D are 8 ply. Load D tires ride nicer than load E. Also as a note, as the the tire gets larger it usually has a higher weight capacity. Example: my 285/75r16 load D tires have a cap of 3400lbs at 65lbs. where the 235/85r16 have a cap 3050lbs at 85lbs. Be careful with bfg's through. All of their tires have a max pres. of 50psi and the seem softer in the side walls( more wiggle ). Also you will need to expriement with tire pressure for your ride

cool... thanks for all the help guys. i think i will keep looking for a while. i am going to get something that is at least rated for 3100 lbs and holds 65 psi. whether it be a d or an e rated tire. i am looking for an aggresssive all terrain. what do you guys think of the pro comp extreme at? or the mickey thompson atz's? any one on here runnin these? im kinda scared to go 315/75 16 honestly. i have heard that you really bite the bullet on gas when you jump up that much. plus problems wearing out the front end and its gonna throw off my speedo. i guess i could afford to lose a few mpg's though. just got the truck and it came with a super chip. i get about 24mpg city/highway combined. open to any suggestions.

Clint, I also think you should stick with the E (10 ply) tire. I think it would be better to have tires that were a bit too big than too small.
