if you find that youve "blown" the sway bar bushings, like i did some time
ago (and ive seen blown on may other trucks)...the p/n for the replacement
(better than factory) poly bushings are in my "mods" link below.

the CLUNK could be one of a few things.

sway bar bushings
ball joints (highly likely)
shocks (not as likely but the factory shocks dont last long either)

i concur

for you guys who are getting the 'floor board' thud/clunk -

the CLUNK could be one of a few things.

sway bar bushings/link bushings
ball joints (highly likely)
shocks (not as likely but the factory shocks dont last long either)

these would be a good starting point and in order of importance

most likely it is the link bushing that is shot. i was told that if you look at it closely enough you will obviously see the problem. and you gotta have them pressed out.

my lower passenger side bushing TORE outta the drop link...it was
pretty obvious...slapping around in the hole (although i dont recall
NOISE as much as poor/mushie handling in turns...almost like a tire
was low or flat).

the factory bushings are rubber...the rubber is incased in a THIN metal
housing...the rubber tears away from the metal housing and its the METAL
"ring" thats left in the drop link.

that ring is a PAIN to press out...the metal "ring" is also difficult to
see....remove it or youll never get replacment bushings (factory or
aftermarket installed).

the polly bushings (complete set) were about 35 bucks...they improve
the handling, they last longer & theyre cheaper...and they can be
installed/removed and replaced by hand (no press needed)

some have given up trying to get the bushings outta the drop links...
and purchased both drop links (factory rubber bushings installed) for
80+ bucks (per drop link, iirc)....the problem w/ that is the rubber bushings
are for crap and will tear out again.

i second this motion. i could have not said it better myself.

and yes, i too tried to punch/pound/burn out the old ones, was able to finally get ahold of one of the 'rings' and remove it but the other one was taken to get pressed out w/ a press. yes, i did pay $75 :sorry to get it pressed out and pressed 'in'...
