Just spent the weekend working on my truck. It started with the fuel heater mod, replaced it. Then the fuel pump. Now it is running but leaking from the screw down cover of the fuel water seperator. I replaced the seal and filter when I did the mod. Could I have messed up the seal, taking the cover on and off? What's the best way to clean the engine up?

You may have messed up the oring seal or you may have gotten a bad one.

Inspect it for problems...........If all else fails put your old seal back in or buy a new one.

As far as cleaning......I use simple green.

i used gunk engine brite. not the foaming kind. didn't your filter come with a new o-ring? or am i confused?? did you put some clean diesel on the seal before you put it on? that helps too.

It sure did come with a seal. I think I may have just used it up taking it off and putting it back on half a dozen times while troubleshooting the fuel pump. The funny part is after I installed the fuel pump and got it running it was not leaking.I even let it run for 20 minutes and no leak. About three hours later after I got clean up and went to the store, thats when it starts leaking.

My first filter change and, deciding the old cover seal was too good to throw away, I re-used it but installed it flat side down....it leaked. I put in the new seal flat side up against the cover and it hasn't leaked.

Curiously, I read at the other place where someone said the flat side goes down....didn't make sense to me as I looked closely at my housing and it has a beveled edge and the mating surface on the cover is flat. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:confused:

Or maybe just maybe.... I changed the filter in my dad's truck yesterday, placed the o-ring on the filter, placed the oring on top of the fuel bowl, then put the cover on. We turned on the key and fuel went everywhere-mad Took it back apart and noticed the lid on his 02 has a gasket made into it and the one with filter is not required on an 02.:dunno
