Leaking coolant...kind of strange...

I do not know how much that would cost it has to be cheaper than replacing head gaskets. They told me that to replace my head gaskets it would cost me $5500.00 but they are trying to work a deal with me so I will see.

its always cheaper to use an outside mechanic, rather than Ford, but then when something like this (what happened to me) happens, you're SOL with warranty work on the work done. FML lol

If you do not know where the leak may be and if you can isolate it to the drivers side, check the De-Gas (coolant recovery tank) to see if it is sweating coolant. The tanks' plastic deteriorates over time from the heat and develops spider cracks which sometimes only leak when the coolant is hot thus causing the cracks to expand and leak. I chased a leak on a hose for 2 weeks and finally ran my hand under the tank and it was wet. $48 dollars at the stealership for a new tank and no problems since.

Just my $.02 worth.

Rgr that...only think is, i've isolated it to the passenger side :( I wish it was as simple as a coolant tank. Already replaced a couple of those on our fleet 6.0's. But what I'm thinking of doing is putting a garden hose in teh coolant tank and sending a large quantity of flowing water through teh system to see if maybe I can see better the leak with large amounts of water. Only thing is, its pretty hard to do with my apartment complex here at Camp Lejeune :rant I do appreciate the help though.

Still wondering how much a stealership would charge just to tighten that hose....assuming you have to take off the top end just to get to the oil cooler/egr cooler hosing

Sorry to be the bearer of potentialy bad news, but have you looked at the freeze plugs in the side of the block? Their called freeze plugs for a reason, to "pop" out when the coolant freezes to keep the block from cracking. If the radiator hose popped off the engine when it froze, there's a good chance you have a leaking freeze plug now as well. NEVER run straight water, no matter what! Now you know why.

Good point. How much is it to have a freeze plug done on these things?

And the only reason I ran water, as I mentioned was because I had to flush it so many times becuase of the blown oil cooler. It is my own dumbass fault for not putting antifreeze in when I got up here. I take the heat for that one.

Being a dumbass South Floridian, it is ok to run water since we never freeze. And since the truck gets run everyday, it doesn't cause much of a corrosion problem.

UPDATE:

It was the freeze plugs. Thanks! I went and got it checked out. The shop wouldn't work on it but they showed me where it was wrong.

Then I got dumb and did something I know as a "tinkerer" I shouldn't do with the cooling system: I added a "Freeze plug sealer" and called it a day. 12 hours and 120 miles: no problems yet. If worse comes to worse, I get another radiator. I found a guy that wholesales brand new ones for $180 bucks...$180 cheaper than any other place I've found so far. <Fingers Crossed>

Glad you got it figured out. Remember though, the straight water corrosion problem does'nt go away with repeated use(every day), the water reacts with the metals in the engine constantly. The theory you have about using it everyday, is only good if you were COMPLETELY flushing the water on a very regular schedule as well. The coolant does more than keep the coolant from freezing, it keeps it from corroding the metals, AND raises the boiling point. When you run the engine at, or near the boiling point of the water all the time, it speeds up the corrosion, and fatigues the entire cooling system. Everything has to work harder, thus wearing out quicker. JMO
