Lawn Update

The fertilizer helped out a quite a bit but the water seemed to just be laying on top. Last weekend I bought one of those little thatching attachments for the mower and went over the lawn twice. After raking up a truck load of dead grass(and green grass)the lawn looked very sick. There was not much green left and I was afraid I killed it. Well since that little project a week has gone by and yesterday(after two waterings)it needed mowed. It is a nice green now with just a couple of brownish spots that I am sure will green up in a few more days. :thumbs

I still have not got the back yard planted, nor have I got the garden planted. I am currently putting new flooring in the house so the gardening will have to wait a few more days. I also still need to get my water pump installed in my 96'. Too many projects, too little time.

Crumm,

In addition to the thatcher attachment, something that can tremendously help with water drainage is to use a lawn aerator to punch holes in the surface of your turf. This will dramatically help with the root development of the turf and drainage capacity of the soil, which will only boost the overall health of the lawn.

AERATOR.

I am in no way implying buy one, but that link will give you an idea of what it looks like, you can rent them from your local rental yard usually for around 30-40 bux a day.

A freind of mine has some sort of spike deal that you drag around the yard and it punches little holes in the ground. I figured I better let the lawn heal up a little(after I trashed it with the thatcher)before I attacked it again. I heard(after I thatched)that you are supose to thatch in the spring before the grass turns green..

Yes, thatching is recommended in early spring. You can aerate pretty much any time and several times/yr.

It is nice and green

Lawn has thickened up and is nice and green. All the rain we have been having is keeping the mower busy too. Check it out HERE. :sweet

I meant for you to check out the green grass in the background not the mower :roflmao :roflmao but now you have me thinking....... I wonder how much lawn-mower tires are rated for? Think they would hold up a PSD? That baby wouldn't choke on a wet clump of grass :sweet
