Fridge Draw

Have had the Kill-a-Watt on the fridge for 41 hours so I think I should have a good reading.

3.51 kwh in 41 hours = .0865 per hour = 2.0546 kwh per day = 61.638 kwh per month.

I use around 1,000 kwh per month in the summer and 1,200 kwh per month during the winter so 61.638 is just a drop in the bucket. $12.51 to run the fridge for a month at $.203 per kwh is not that much. I thought the fridge was a large part of my usage but I guess not. How much does it take to run a new fridge for a month?

Next item to be connected to the kill-a-watt is the curling irons, hope I live to report back... Stay tuned.

I'll put on a helmet and go ask. Good suggestion.

heres a good intro to ROI <return on investment>...i promise you,
the medical expense youll encounter as a result of having made that
comment or asked that question will FAR AND ABOVE OUT WEIGH
ANY POSSIBLE SAVINGS of those curling irons (or straighteners) being
turned off even for a MONTH !

.... Things we don't think about (?) 4, 75 watt bulbs= 300 watts. The UL stickers arent that correct.

Light Bulbs were my eye opener . When you stop to think about the number of lights you have on in just your normal daily/nightly living.. the Wattage adds up purdy darn quick.

....Don't know the Rocket Science of it all but we've dropped our Electric bill by about a 1/3rd with CFL's, and watching Use a bit closer.

...Home Depot has about the best selection for CFL's. ('round here anyway) I went with the "Bright White" for most applications.

The problem i have w/ the CFL's is the COST (and the mercury/disposal)...
disposal of "burnt out" bulbs is one thing...but the clean up from BUSTED
CFL's is of greater concern to me...mercury exposure to pets and people is
an issue.

all that aside when the CFL's are 5x the cost of a conventional bulb its
hard to realize any ROI...as bulbs burn out we consider replacing w/
a CFL, but were NOT running around pulling every bulb out and investing
in CFL's...thats a wasteful strategy imo !

we'll use what we have and then consider replacement using a CFL.

Im using some CFL's where lights are on for longer durations (front porch
light @ night) but I think youre more likely to benefit thru education....I
have no problem showing my kids the "LIGHT BILL" and sharing w/ them
the true COST of "LIVING" (theyre teens now & should be familarize w/
what its gonna take for them to live on their own) !

where education has not been effective I've installed automated bulb
TIMERS (in particular in closets where folks "FORGET" to turn the bulb
off)...its a potentially expensive & drastic measure but effective just
the same -
