donaldson air filters

If they last 50,000 miles, then the price is very reasonable at $48. I guess that is only highway miles and not off road miles.

Okay, I'll ask the $50 question... what is so different between the mid and late 06 trucks?

Hello Kleetus;
Since my truck is a manual 6spd, could that be the difference in fuel mileage?
Did Ford change the air intake plumbing in later 06 trucks?
Is there a different tune for the manual trucks and automatic trucks?
I guess we need to ask a Ford tech these questions.

Below is my fuel record so far. The last fillup was 18.0 mpg last week going up to Klamath Falls. All are empty tail gate up, 2000 rpm, 70 mph on cruise control.

188 miles 10.6 gal. 17.74 mpg (hills)
488.9 miles 25.9 gal. 18.88 mpg
220.4 miles 11.67 gal. 18.89 mpg
242.6 miles 12.42 gal 19.53 mpg
307 miles 16.7 gal 18.38 mpg
297 miles 17.7 gal 16.78 mpg (strong 30 mph headwind)
Coming up I5 from Bakersfield, pushing the headwind I noticed boost was between 5 and about 8 pounds on level ground to maintain 70 mph. I lowered the tailgate and did not notice any difference in boost pressure, so I put the tailgate back up.

Total average = 18.35 mpg.

Dan;

Those are some impressive maintanence records. Looks like most of them are while pulling a heavy load.

Well I know generally as a rule manuals will get better milage than automatics, but my friend has an 04 6.0 and up untill about a 9 months to a year ago, he was getting 21-20. He's a 350 4x4 8 foot bed 4 door. It's no slouch either, you nail it down, it nails you to the headrest. I haven't lines our two up yet to see, but I'm thinking he might beat me.

I have an odd driveline vibration that's been there since day one. happens at 20-22 mph and 40-45 mph. Dealer claims its the Pirelli tires, and put 4 new ones on it, but it's still there and getting worse. I am beginning to wonder if I don't have something going out in the tranny or rear end. I can beat the truck and get 13, or drive like my grandmother and get 14. That's it. I'm perplexed... under warranty so I don't realy care other than the inconvienence.

Slow truck..

I am sure my truck will be a slow truck. It takes time to shift gears, so I doubt I could win any drag race with any automatic. My main goal is when I am pulling my 5th wheel, and going up a long 6% grade, that I do not have to downshift past direct drive (fourth gear) The six speed has lo, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, od. Fourth gear at 2000 rpm is around 60 mph. I have not pulled anything with my truck yet, so I do not know how it will act up a 6% grade pulling 10,000 pounds.
When I get the urge for speed, I have two cars in the garage for that. One is a 1960 Ford Falcon with a 428SCJ with nitrous, C6, and 9 inch differential, posi. The other is a 240Z with V8 engine, set up for road courses and top end. I do not plan on souping up my truck, unless something terrible happens like I get passed by a chevy.

To get back to the original question, I have a 2005 Excursion and after careful shopping I purchased an Airaid. This is the third vehicle I have had with an Airaid and have been very satisfied with all. I have also used K&N for decades, first starting off on motos and moving on to cars. I have always been happy with their products.

Mileage? I just broke 3000 miles and have never seen less than 15.5 mpg. I need to quit being lazy and make the calculations myself to see if I can believe the computer. I never got better with my 1998 K2500 Suburban (big block), and hope to do quite a bit better with my Ford.

Anyone had any experiences with the Volant intake system for the 6.0? Little high on the price but seems like a nice kit...
