Since she's shipping out to Afghanistan this fall and will near-certainly have to run convoys, I ordered her one of THESE (the "sniper" version). It was pricey, but that dealer had one in stock and the lead time for a knife like that can stretch into the several-month timeframe so I jumped on it while I could. There's a 50-50 chance it'll be mine when she gets back, so maybe dropping that kind of dough on a piece of kit isn't such a bad thing...

you can hone those pretty good, I did.
you can always wrap the parachute cord around the handle

Nice knife. I think I would be more apt to invest in body armor, though. Is she in the service, or a contractor?
