I've been complaining to my dealer about the mileage of my F450 6.4...10.2 mpg. My dealer service rep tells me that Ford Corporate has been receiving complaints from various dealers around the country of their customers complaining of the mileage the new 6.4's a getting. Ford is aware of the problem and claims the problem lies in the torque converter and when the PCM is telling it to lock up.
Service rep states that, when the Ford engineer boys fiqure it out, it will most likely be a simple re-flash to the PCM.
seems to me if they KNOW the problem then it would be an easy
QUICK reflash and they'd already have it done !
whats even MORE troubling is that the tranny in the 6.4L is the SAME
as whats in the 6.0L...and we (6.0L owners) get fairly good milage in
comparison to the 6.4 and even the 7.3's
til they resolve the piss poor mpg of the 6.4L it wont even come into
consideration for many <myself included> !
Do the OBS trucks have this problem? Never really noticed it.
Welcome to SDD.com stevechie. Post up some pics of the new ride and fill out your sig.
dont know 'bout the OBS trucks but many 7.3 owners installed their own
converter lockup <control> switch.
many 6.0 owners are pleased w/ how often the converter locks & unlocks
but the torq-shift 5r110 is much more complicated and requires more work
(software) to control the lock up...so far no one has been able to come up
w/ a simple "switch" to control the lock up on the 5r110 (although some flash
programers have a solution)
