Congrats on the new buddy. Looks as if he moved himself right in. Nothing like a dog to come home to. No matter how crappy the day is get home to a wagging tail, a bark, and jump up to give you a kiss. Keith

Thank you all for the responses.. My wife and I always pick a dog from the pound. We want to save them, and found that all dogs, pedigree or not are full of love. Some of the best dogs are mongrels. They all give love and need love.
We had always had two dogs at a time, so that when we were at work, they would have some company. Now that we are retired, Luke will have both of us all the time. Tonight we just went to dinner, after buying him a doghouse, water bowls, food bowls, blankets, and chewey. We put him in an inclosed pen, and you would have thought that we steped on his paws... He was howling the blues. Now that we are home, all is forgiven. He is asleep in HIS chair.
Thanks again... You guys are the best...

Max, he probably was howling because he thought he was being left behind. This should pass in a few days. It is an adjustment period. Keith

Yes, the howling should pass, the thing with shelter dogs is a lot of them don't come with a history. You have no clue what they've been through before you adopted them. His previous owner could have kept him in a pen for days at a time. He should adjust once he realizes he has a perminant home now.

Our first adoption, the white faced one in my avatar took a month or so to adjust. He was surrendered to the shelter by 3 different people in 14 months. We can't figure out why? He's a great dog. The black faced one took about 20 minutes to adjust.

Remember the terrible two's?

Day one: Luke was quiet and shy.
Day two: Luke is bouncing off the walls. I gave him a nyla bone, and he throws it up in the air and plays catch with himself. He is very playful. I guess he has decided he likes it here.
Here he is in one of his quiet moments, in his chair with his new blanket.

Max, one thing you might want to try is take an old piece of clothing that you wore and put it in his crate/pen. Keith
