Well I'm up in MD and after the little storm that blew through yesterday my '01 7.3 L 250 wont start. It turns over, but will not start. I replaced both batteries a few months ago and the GPS. But, this seems like a classic GPS issue. The one side note here is the "wait to start" idiot light isn't coming on either. Any ideas?

If the WTS light isn't coming on.. Sounds like the Classic... Fuel (Bowl) Heater element has shorted out.

Check your Fuses. Disconnect the element At the fuel filter housing. Bet it'll start.

(When you replace the element, get the one from IH.. It's of Much better Quality)

Fixed it. :coffee
NAPA has them, too. Heavy IH design, not the cute, slender, Ford one..

The 30 Amp (and all other) fuse is good. Is the connection for the fuel filter heating element on the back side of the housing? A two wire white body connector, if so that didn't work.

disconnect the fuel bowl heater to diagnose. then pull #30 fuse and CHECK it. if its good replace and then try turning the truck over.

then see if the TACH moves. see the CPS thread in the wiki.

Disconnected the heater (I think, see reply above), re-checked the fuse (it's still good), and the TACH does not move. Thoughts?

BTW, Thanks everyone!!!!!

Well, just replaced the CPS, it still won't start, and the WTS light is still not lighting up.

So so far I have:
1) Replaced the CPS
2) Disconnected the fuel bowl heater (at least I'm pretty sure I did)
3) Checked all the fuses under the dash

Look at your owners book. The fuse you are after is like #22 position in the power distribution box under the hood near the DS battery. Its not under the dash. I am going by memory and its raining out.

Look in the wiki for info on the fuel bowl heater. Look to right hand corner of any page here at SDD for like. Then look at the left menu to list the articles. Page down too.
