Hey Matt, I am in Fayetteville / Fort Bragg as well and will have my eyes wide open. I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet that it was a fellow Soldier that stole it from you. There are tons of people in this area that are non-military that are here just to steal from the military, especially if you live over on the Murchison rd side of town.
