I have been reading for a while but this is my first post. You guy's have pull my stuff out of the fire a couple of time. Thanks for having a great forum. I'm the proud owner of a 96 F250 w/7.3 & auto 4X4. I have searched the forums for the answer and am still puzzled. I have an intermitten no start. There are no DTC on the scanner. The tach dosen't jump and the WTS light does come on. It cranks hard but nothing. I replaced the CPS and checked all fuses and connections. The only thing I can think of would be the IPR. Am I on the right track. :dunno

IPR would likely need o-rings if the crankcase oil is hot and the truck won't start. If the tach doesn't register thats a sure sign of a loose power chip, bad cps or a broken wire from cps.Weak batteries can do strange things to our trucks also.

I'm with clem He's nailed the likely culprits oh and you would not be the first (and I'm sure not the last) one who got a bad CPS out of the box.

Anyway to test the CPS. My truck is completely unmolested. Zero upgrades. 246,000 miles and beyond that I have no information. Was running great for 2 years now this.

I don't know how to test a CPS.I had to change mine (same symptoms) at 136k.Yours lasted a good while. There is a recall on the CPS,you may get a free one from the dealer.

No way to test a CPS that I've ever heard of, and even if there was a way.. A NEW one is only 30 bucks or so.

But yer prolly under the Recall.. check with a Ford Dealer.. yul get a New One Free, installed, like clem sez.

Replaced CPS again and we're back in action. How does this happen. Fresh out of the box failure. Glad it's running again. Thanks for all your help.
