Hey wild WildFingas I wouldnt go with the drop in filter from K&N either. There filtering isn't good on forced inductioned vehicles. best bet try AFE or green filter. Both companies have drop in replacement filters and are under 100$ usually.

Installing an air intake

I too have been doing some research on this subject

And figured would provide my inputs as of todays date
-Consider SBFilters
-They provide detailed data on Air intake systems
-Plus test to ISO 5011
-As previous forum members commented on Extreme CAUTION needs to be taken / proceed select performance filtration system with care.
-Yes more Cool Air -- all the better
-However even MORE important is CLEAN air to protect engine
-Take a serious read / data on S&B filters
-If I was to purchase one today this is the system I personally would select
-I am big on Technical SPECS
-Totally don't ever believe a Marketing type ad or salesman
-Have them PROVE their statements with Technical / Engineering data
-Then and only then believe same
-Just my two cents worth

Happy upcoming holidays to all

as i have said before...if it flows more air...it flows more DIRT
even K&N says their OWN filters perform better AFTER they get
dirty (begs the question...until it GETS dirty wheres the dirt going...)

oiled gauze filters DEPEND on the oil to collect the dirt...if you dont
keep up a regimented cleaning process the filter becomes CLOGGED...
which puts you right back to cleaning it...and waiting for it to get
dirty <again> for it to filter well !

all this would be fine in a conventional engine...but w/ TURBOS the
1st thing that will collect any debris that is passed by the filter will
be the compressor fins on the turbo

consider that the compressor shaft speeds are in excess of 30k rpm...
microscopic SAND (passing thru the filter) will QUICKLY erode the
SHARP leading edges of the compressor fins.

you should see what a drop of WATER can do to the fins !

racers run w/out filters or minimal filters...cause they only need the
engine to last for one race...and they tear the motors down after
each race just to see why it stayed together...if not to re-spec
everything for the NEXT race.
