My brother n law is going to buy my f150 and now I'm in the market for a power stroke. I'm not planning on doing anything other than intake, exhaust and a programmer. So it isn't going to be heavily modded. Is there any particular model to keep an eye out for or to stay away from? This is my first diesel so I'm very green to them. Thanks

I talked to two different ford mechanics and one said stay away from the 6.0s they are always in getting worked on and the other said as long as reg maintenance is performed they are all good.

If you are looking for a bullet proof engine, go with a 7.3 liter diesel. The last year they made them is 2003.

Am I safe with any of the diesels with lower miles and doing reg maintenance? Especially with barely doing any mods

Not really. For example the 6.0 can blow head gaskets, STOCK. Add chip or a programmer and you have crossed the line. Head studs is the cure, but that is a lot of work to add a chip. I can't speak for the 6.4 or the 6.7, but I have heard nothing bad about hot rodding these, other than the $$$$. Exhaust is the best thing you can do. Be careful with the intakes. K&N filters are NOT good as they do not filter very well. You can add stockings and other things to help out. I will never add a K&N to anything I own.

Get a 2011 or 2012 6.7L and be done with it. They run great the way they are and they seem to be pretty reliable

If you can aford a new one that's the way I would go a 2011 or 2012 with a 6.7 is
a powerhouse and get fair MPG. A 2006 or 2007 6.0 with low millage might be a good
deal. I have 78000 on my 06 now and it works hard pulling my 16,000 + fiftwheel
and does a good job of it. Good luck on finding the right truck for you.
