OK, been working on it the past 3 days, getting closer to paint.

Gonna be the same color as my truck of course, but with some flames.

It's a real light weight chassis design because it will be in a real light class
of dragsters.

Tell me whatcha think so far.

I remember the pinewood derby days. Be sure to graphite the axles and get it up to maximum allowed weight. Also helps to slightly elevate one front wheel so it is actually only rolling on three.

The rules as you know, are very strict. I weighed it last night at the Deli dept. at Wally World and it was at 5.12 oz. Max allowed weight is 5oz.,complete with everything.

So I took out some more of the bed to get it below, and plan on using the lead weights to get me back to 5.

I do have one question tho, I have heard that you want your majority of weight towards the front? True or False?

I am doing all the wood work and my 11yo son Austin is the painter.

Theory I have always heard / gone with is all the weight in the front. Making sure the axles are perfectly straight is extremely important so you don't get any wheel wobble. I have seen cars with a axle slightly off and is slowed it way down because of tire wobble.

if your rules permit you get solid axles instead of the single nail on each side.

I always used weight evenly distributed front to rear to equalize the friction on all four wheels.

Make sure you sand the casting seam off of your wheels.
